Getting a little closer to home but still on the road….Hey! At least I’m back in “Southwest Michigan” with this one.

My Friday night overtime shifts have come to an end for the year. I had one more that took me down to Edwardsburg for an assignment about two weeks ago.

My plan on this assignment was to order a pizza from a place in Edwardsburg but when I called, they told me there was an hour and forty minute wait. Yeah…couldn’t do that.

Luckily, I was just outside of Decatur when I made that call so I pulled off to the side of the road and looked for pizza places in Dowagiac.

I found Saylor’s Front Street Pizzeria in downtown Dowagiac and gave them a call. The wait was only 15-20 minutes which was right about perfect.

Saylor’s Front Street Pizzeria is on Front Street at the intersection with Beeson Street. I was driving through at about dinner time on Friday night so all of the angled parking on Front Street was full. There was a lot off Beeson Street that was easy to get to and pretty empty so I parked there and walked back to the pizza shop.

The pizza was ready when I walked in just before 6:00.

There’s a small window in the back of the room that looks in to the kitchen. I told the lady my name and she turned around and grabbed the pizza. The cost for a large Meatsa pizza was about $15.

I was in kind of a hurry but Saylor’s isn’t just a take out place. They actually have a pretty good sized dining room. There were a few families enjoying the dine in surrounded by banners from college and professional sports teams hanging on the walls.

I was kind of in a hurry to get to Edwardsburg by this point but I still wanted to eat a couple of slices before I left. I got back to th car and popped open the box. I got the Meatsa Pizza which didn’t have a description on the menu but I assumed it was just all the meats.

This p izza was good. It doesn’t look like anything special when you see it but the sauce makes this pizza jump. The crust is a pretty dense thin crust but it’s cooked perfectly with just a little bit through it but no crunch. The pizza was loaded with pepperoni, sausage, bacon, and ground beef. Once again, I planned on eating a few slices and saving the rest for later but between Dowagiac and Edwardsburg, I ate the whole thing.

Saylor’s has what I can only assume is a sister location in Saylor’s Main Street Pizzeria in Watervliet. When I had the pizza from there I wrote that it was good but I don’t remember it being this good. I really liked the pizza from Saylor’s Front Street Pizzeria in Dowagiac.
