Cosmic Candy Company
Alright, one more stop on the way home. Actually two..but one more for food.
We left Sleeping Bears Dunes after a fantastic lunch with some friends at St. Ambrose Cellars. J had one more stop she wanted to make on the way.
We went a little out of our way to find the Arcadia Scenic Turnout. We called this our afternoon hike and climbed to the top of the stairs of this overlook to find even more amazing views of Lake Michigan.
This was a little out of our way and we really weren’t in a hurry to get home. As we were leaving, J asked if there was any ice cream along the way. There’s always ice cream along the way…it was just how far out of our way did we want to go.
I decided Pentwater wasn’t too far out of the way and there’s a pretty big candy shop there that would have something for everyone.
Cosmic Candy Company is in downtown Pentwater between 1st and 2nd Streets. I actually missed the building the first time we drove by. The building has a big overhang out front. The sign was up against the building so I didn’t see it while driving. J noticed it so I went around the block and found a parallel parking spot right across the street.
This building has everything you want in a candy store. The space is pretty big. We went right to the back to the candy first. We told the kids they could grab one thing plus get ice cream.
L took that “one thing” pretty literally. J went to the bulk candy to get the stuff she likes. L also picked one single piece of candy from the bulk bin. For the life of me I don’t remember what it was but she just got one piece. She could have grabbed at least a handful…we were just trying to make them make a choice of one type of candy.
In addition to candy, they have chocolate at a case near the middle of the store.
Ice cream at the front of the store
And the thing they seem to be most proud of, Pentwater Popcorn right as you walk in.
I grabbed a bag of White Cheddar popcorn because I wasn’t in the mood for ice cream. I knew I could snack on it over a few days too so I wasn’t going for that instant gratification.
The kids and J all got ice cream. Cosmic Candy actually had both Ashley’s and Hudsonville ice creams in their case. B did what he always does and got Superman. He gets a dish and since he was the first one scooped, he and I went outside to find a place to sit and eat while J took care of the paying.
L got a waffle cone like she always does but her ice cream choice was unusual for her. She picked Cake Batter. This ice cream is yellow cake batter flavored ice cream with yellow cake pieces and chocolate mixed in. It looked delicious but she wouldn’t even give me a bite to confirm what she was saying.
J got the Seaside Caramel which is chocolate covered salted caramels in vanilla ice cream with a salted caramel ribbon. She had already started eating before she came out so no picture.
The bill for all of the treats we got was just a little over $30.
Cosmic Candy Company was a good stop. There’s a little something for everyone. There used to be a store in Woodland Mall that we had stopped at once but this is home base. This is the original store. This is the place you need to stop not only for delicious ice cream but for some really tasty popcorn as well.
