Jack’s Hollywood Diner
1031 N. Federal HighwayI knew the hours were going to be long when I signed up for this trip to Miami. I don’t think I realized just how long they were going to be and how little time for breaks I would have until our first night there.
Day two in Miami saw our day start at 9:30 AM in Miami Beach. At 2:00, we had to make the drive to Miami Gardens by 3:30. Shouldn’t be a problem, but Miami traffic is awful. We barely made it which meant no time to stop at a drive thru for lunch.
My day concluded at 12:30 AM. We still hadn’t eaten. there was no time for breaks between 4:00 PM and 12:30 AM. There was very little around our hotel so I started looking for 24 hours nearby…and wouldn’t ya know it, I found one.
Jack’s Hollywood Diner is on Federal Highway near Hayes Street in Hollywood, Florida. The retro diner is exactly what I was hoping to find when I put in the address. The 60’s style diner has been in Hollywood for over 50 years.
Jack’s is set up like a typical diner. There’s a long lunch counter as you walk in and booths off to the left. There’s also a fairly big (for a diner) dining room that looks more like an addition than part of the original structure.
The waitress saw us sit down and followed with menus. We both ordered Coke’s but they do have a few cheap beer and wine options on the menu. Nothing fancy but something alcoholic to soak up that greasy diner food if you’re in the mood.
The menu is pretty diner-y but it’s a pretty large diner menu. I ordered the Double Double Burger Deluxe. The sandwich is double everything. It’s two half pound patties, double the bacon, double the cheese. All of the extras were served on the side and the waitress asked if I wanted ketchup or mayo before she brought the burger out so I didn’t have to worry about scraping those off. There is nothing fancy about this burger. It’s the simple diner burger that tastes better with a little bit of salt…but at that moment in time, it was the best burger I had ever eaten. It was greasy and it was large. The sandwich came with fries, which, again, weren’t much to talk about but seeing as that was the only meal I had eaten all day, I was happy just to have them.
Jack’s Hollywood Diner was exactly what we needed. It’s a classic diner, open 24/7, serving up classic, greasy diner food. I was pretty excited when I stumbled on this while doing a Google search for places to eat nearby and I was pretty happy with a full belly when we walked out.
