Wingstop (Battle Creek)
5475 Beckley Road, Suite 130I spent my Friday night in Battle Creek. It was another overtime shift but this time, I didn’t really have much time to eat in between my shifts.
I spent most of the evening in Emmett Township. When I got done around 9:30 PM, I started looking for some place to eat. It was still early enough that I had some options but I remembered I had been wanting to stop for wings in this area for a while so wings won out.
Wingstop opened in Battle Creek in the Minges Shoppes back in March of last year. The small chain wing shop is on Beckley Road near Riverside Drive in a building that used to be a Comerica Bank. It sits between a nail shop and a mattress shop in the shopping plaza next to the now shuttered Fazoli’s on the southeast side of Battle Creek.
I put my order in online for 10 wings and fries as I was sitting at my job site. It gave me a pick up time of about ten minutes which is about how long it took me to get there with a stop for a Pepsi and gas at the Meijer gas station just down the road.
The Battle Creek Wingstop looks exactly like the Wingstops built around the same time in the Kalamazoo area. There’s an order counter right as you walk in. The majority of people are coming in to pick up but there was a group of kids in front of me that were placing orders in store.
Off to the right, there is a dining room space that leads to the back of the restaurant along the kitchen. There’s a mixture of four tops and two tops with Wingstop graphics on top of the tables. The restaurant has very muted color scheme of grays and tans with a pop of green in the trim along the chair rail.
My food was ready when I got to the front of the line. I grabbed the bag, filled up my drink, then headed home to eat.
I opened up the box with the fries first. In the past, I’ve always upgraded to the cheese fries or VooDoo Fries but those don’t really hold up very well for carry out so I just stuck with plain fries this time. They’re a fairly large order of skin on fries that were nice and crispy with a heavy hand of salt on them. I passed on anything to dip them in because these are the kind of frozen fries I like.
I only got ten wings but I still split them up in to two sauces.
The first five I ate were Garlic Parmesan. This is a pretty typical order for me. I really like Garlic Parm wings. These wings were a little bit smaller than the wings I’ve gotten from Wingstop the last few trips but they were still nice and crispy on the outside while still being meaty and juicy in the middle. This is the type of Garlic Parm sauce I really like where’s it’s simply melted butter with garlic and Parmesan cheese.
The other five wings I ordered were Buffalo hot. Again, this is a fairly typical wing order from me. I get the five Garlic Parm with no heat then add in a little bit of heat with the Buffalo sauce. I don’t normally get to adventurous because I just really like my combo. The wings were the same. A little undersized but still crispy and juicy. The hot Buffalo is hot but it’s not an overpowering hot. They do have hotter on the menu. I just choose to play it safe.
The cost of my meal was just over $18.
I know I’m in the minority when I say I like Wingstop. Yes, the wings felt a little small this time but that’s really the first time I’ve had Wingstop in a while where I would say that. I still like the convenience and knowing I’m going to get a tasty meal when I order from them. It’s not something I do a lot but when I want a no hassle wing dinner, Wingstop is usually my go to.
