Last week was a competition week for the kids in Ann Arbor. They went over Wednesday night to compete Thursday and Friday.

I am starting to run out of PTO days so I have to be a little more strategic about the time I take off. We have a couple of big trips planned yet this year and I want to be able to go on those.

I decided I’d just take Friday off and drive over in the morning. L didn’t skate until almost 11:00 AM and B’s only skate of the day wasn’t until 6 PM. I’d have plenty of time to sleep at home and drive in the morning.

J had asked me Thursday night if I’d stop at a Dunkin’ on my way to the rink. The only Dunkin’s in Ann Arbor are near U of M so parking can be difficult. I don’t mind dealing with downtown traffic so I said I’d take care of.

I kind of already had plans to go to the area anyway to get breakfast for myself.

My breakfast stop was at BO’s Bagels on South University Avenue near East University Avenue on the east side of the University of Michigan campus. The bagel shop has two locations. This one here in Ann Arbor and the original one in Harlem. The shop is named after the owners kids (Brody and Olivia) so both letter’s are capitalized. This shop opened last spring on the ground floor of a newly constructed high rise.

The shop is set up like many other bagel shops I’ve been in. It’s a long, narrow space with a counter taking up the whole length of the store. The side furthest from the door is the order area and has the bagel display so you can see what you’re getting.

The side closest to the door is the order pick up area. There are also some sweet treats on display here so you can grab a little something extra on your way out the door.

There isn’t much seating in the restaurant. It’s very big city like with just a rail and a few stools looking out on to South Uni.

I walked in the door and immediately saw an self order kiosks so I went there instead of going to the counter. This really worked out to my advantage because it gave me time to scroll through the menu instead of just ordering the first thing I saw. I initially put the Bacon, Eggs, and Cheese on a Bagel in to my cart but I kept scrolling and found something even better. Pastrami, Eggs, and Cheese on a Bagel. It’s a New York deli shop, right? The pastrami should be amazing.

The cost for the sandwich was right around $11. It took a little over five minutes for my name to be called. I grabbed the bag then headed to the Biggby Coffee Ice Cube – Ann Arbor to meet up with my family to eat.

The breakfast sandwich was as simple as it sounds. It’s thick slices of peppery, smokey pastrami, folded eggs, and cheese (I chose Gouda) on a bagel (I chose Everything). I typically do bacon as my meat of choice on bagel sandwiches but the pastrami was exactly what I was hoping it would be when I ordered it. It was the dominant flavor of the sandwich alongside the onion taste of the bagel. The bagel was warm and toasty with just a little bit of crunch in every bite. Bagel sandwiches are the perfect breakfast sandwich because they’re a hearty breakfast sandwich. Just one is enough to keep you going all day. I’m not a New York bagel expert by any stretch of the imagination. I just know that I love breakfast sandwiches and this one was worth going out of the way for.

BO’s Bagels came up when I was doing a search for bagels in Ann Arbor. I was looking for someplace else that I couldn’t remember the name of but I’ve driven by several times. BO’s caught my attention right away when I started looking at the pictures on Google and on the menu. I was going out of my way to go towards campus anyway to get Dunkin’ but I think I would have still gone out of my way to get this sandwich. Ann Arbor isn’t out favorite competition to go to (scores are always so low) but I do love going to Ann Arbor for the food
