Another night in Grand Rapids.

This one was a little unexpected. A colleague called in sick and I was asked to fill her shift instead of working my normal day shift. I didn’t have anything planned so I said yes.

Friday night is pizza night and while J went ahead and did our usual Cottage Inn delivery, I didn’t want to wait until I got home.

I drove by a pizza place I have been to many times under many different names over the years and noticed yet another new name. New name means I need to try it out and see if it’s any different.

Joezano’s Pizza has a couple of locations in West Michigan. The original location appears to be in Hamilton. The second location is in Grand Rapids Heritage Hill neighborhood on the corner of State Street and Prospect Avenue. The building across from the little triangle park on a weird intersection has been many pizza places over the years including Grand Rapids Pizza & Delivery and Heritage Hill Pizza.

I looked up the restaurant online and was really happy to see they had online ordering. I put in an order for a 14″ Firehouse Pizza which cost me a little over $20. I put the order in arond 7:00 and when I got there about 7:25, my pizza was waiting for me.

The restaurant is pretty much the same as it has always been. There’s a counter right as you walk in the door to pick up the pizza or to order. There’s also a pretty large dining room. The advertisements in the window highlight slices at lunch time so it’s easy to grab a slice and sit down to enjoy it without having to eat lunch in your car.

The Firehouse Pizza is loaded with toppings. I ordered the thin crust which isn’t quite a true thin crust but it’s much thinner than their regular crust. The pizza is loaded down with Pepperoni, onions, jalapenos, banana peppers, crushed red peppers, green olives, mozzarella and bacon. I left the onions and the olives off as I was really just looking for the heat of the peppers.

This was a really tasty pizza. I didn’t plan on eating the whole thing but I had missed lunch so this was going to make up for it. The pizza wasn’t super hot…in fact it could have been hotter, but it was a really delicious mix of peppers. Had I been at home, I probably would have thrown some hot sauce on top.

It’s been a while since I’ve ordered pizza from this pizza shop not too far from downtown so I don’t really remember what the pizza was like under the previous two names. I’ve always liked the pies that have come out of this building though. Joezano’s Pizza is another good one. Everything from the crust to the top layer of banana peppers kept me going back for “just one more slice” until it was all gone.
