Grand Rapids Pizza & Delivery
I haven’t always been one of those people that ate out everyday at work. The job I have now is really the first job where I’ve been confined to an office most of the day. When lunch time rolls around, I’m usually itching to get out even if it’s just for a half hour. That’s the reason you’ve been seeing so many Grand Rapids reviews from me lately. Well, that and it’s a new town to explore.
Sunday’s have never been my favorite day to eat out in Grand Rapids. It seems like most restaurants are closed, but you can always count on pizza joints being open.
I have a list of pizza places I want to try in Grand Rapids, but this time, I chose the one close to where I work. Grand Rapids Pizza and Delivery is on State Street and Prospect Avenue just south of downtown Grand Rapids. State Street is pretty sparsely populated, but there is one nice looking red brick building that plays home to both the pizza place and a Chinese restaurant.
The reason I chose GRPD this time was their website. They actually offer online ordering and I’m a big fan of not having to make a phone call to order a pizza. I had a little trouble with the site wanting to take my credit card, but eventually figured it out.
The menu is typical pizzeria. They do a hand tossed pizza as well as a Chicago stuffed pizza as well as pasta, sandwiches, salads, and chicken wings. Pizza was what I was looking for and I found a thin crust. Since it was just me, I put in an order for a small (12″) with pepperoni and bacon. I also threw in a note asking for the pizza to be well-done if that’s something they do. The cost was a little over $10.
I was a lot closer to the place than I thought, so I actually got there before my pizza was done. Since it was already paid for, I took a seat in the dining room and played Mah Jong on my phone while I waited. It was about five minutes or so after I sat down that I saw my pizza being boxed up and cut.
I saw the pizza come out of the oven and I was really curious, so I actually opened it up when I got back to my car. First thing I noticed is that the pizza was well done which is fantastic. It was also a very thin crust that appeared to be nice and crispy. I couldn’t wait to get back to work to dig in.
Just like I hoped, the pizza did have a very cripsy, airy bottom crust. It got a little soft toward the center, but a good portion of it gave a really good crunch. The crust was just how I like it.
The toppings on the pizza were piled on. There was a lot of crunchy bacon bits and pepperoni that that was cooked to a crunch as well.
You know by now, I’m kind of a pizza snob. I have a very particular type of pizza that I like. GRPD fits into that category. The pizza was delicious. I’m glad I was eating alone because I just kind of scarfed it down without breathing. I have a feeling it was pretty ugly.

It looks great, too bad we don’t get to Grand Rapids!
Just a quick rec for you: Best pizza in GR (and it never shows up on any review sites) is Andrea’s Pizza on Boston Ave. Family owned, AMAZING sauce, great crust, and really great toppings. I heartily recommend it, been eating there since I was 7 years old. I was a long-time reader of Mid Michigan Dining and feel from your pizza reviews that you’d really like Andreas.
Thanks for the tip. I may try that this weekend.
Have you tried it?
I did. https://swmichigandining.com/2010/08/08/andreas-pizza/
