Devon’s Mackinac Island Fudge Company (Huron Street)
You have to get fudge when going to Mackianc Island….right?
I was spending a week working on Mackinac Island but staying in Mackinaw City. We really didn’t have any time at all to be tourists while on the Island. Our schedule was pretty tight taking the earliest ferry could to get there and the latest we could to get back. There really wasn’t any time to do any shopping on the Island.
Fortunately, there was a fudge shop right across the street from my hotel. There are actually several fudge shops in Mackinaw City but after trying pretty much every store on Mackinac Island, I’ve never noticed enough of a difference to find a place that is “must have.”
I ate lunch in St. Ignace on Thursday and kind of thought about just buying fudge at a place over there. I could have and actually passed a couple but I headed back to my hotel to walk across the street to the place I passed every morning on the way to the ferry.
Devon’s Mackinac Island Company fudge has a couple of locations in Mackinaw City as well as production facility across the bridge in St. Ignace. I stopped at the downtown location last time I was in Mackinaw City so this time, I went to the bigger one on Huron Street in Mackinaw Bay Trading Company.
This location is really a big candy store. It’s part of the larger Mackinaw Bay Trading Company shopping center. The fudge shops takes up the corner closest to Railroad Avenue. The store is really big. There is all sorts of candy and popcorn plus souvenirs. It’s really one stop shopping for all of the things you need to remember your trip to Mackinac.
The fudge counter is near the back wall. On one side there’s fudge. The other side is ice cream. The fudge is all individually wrapped already in the glass case so the hardest part is just picking out which flavors you want.
The deal right now is buy two slices get two free…so that’s what I did. The four slices of fudge and a magnet (which I have to get on every trip to keep the kids happy) came out to a little over $27.
I have to say. I showed pretty good restraint in not eating all the fudge before I got home. I only ate a little bit of one slice.
The one that I didn’t wait to share all of with the family was the vanilla. I broke off the end as soon as I got back to the hotel. That was the only bit of fudge I ate the rest of the week.
The other slices I got were Cookie & Cream…
….Cookie dough…
…and Mint Chocolate.
There are so many more to choose from but I went by what my family does a lot of time for ice cream and picked the flavors I thought they’d really like and we all could enjoy.
I really wish I could tell you what makes one fudge shop better than the other, but I can’t. It all tastes pretty similar and is price pretty similar. I really do like Mackinac Island Fudge and I look forward to grabbing some every time I go to the Island.
If you can’t make it to the Island, Devon’s Mackinac Island Fudge is definitely worth the stop in Mackinaw City. You can get delicious fudge alongside a wide array of other tasty treats. This shop made my life a whole lot easier.
