The first full day in San Juan was spent exploring the historic parts of the city. We took an Uber out to the National Historic Sites and walked through Viejo San Juan.
We wanted to start the day with something light and not get bogged down in a big heavy breakfast. The feels like temperature was over 100 degrees and we were going to be outside walking a lot.
We noticed a little cafe area just inside the entrance to our hotel when we checked in. J jumped in the shower when we got up and she asked me if I’d run down and grab something to eat.
La Panderia is inside the San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellaris Casino in the Condado subbarrio of San Juan. The hotel is right along Condado beach on Ashford Avenue where it meets CII Caribe. La Panderia is right inside the lobby when you walk in off to the right. It’s tucked in to the corner of room with no walls separating it from the rest of the lobby.
The space is kind of a grab-n-go cafe. There are a number of drinks including cold beers and wines. There are pre-made sandwiches, snacks, and fresh fruits in a large wall cooler. Then, there is a small pastry case next to the cash register with a variety of donuts, muffins, and other quick breakfast options.
J just asked me to grab her a yogurt parfait. It was the quick, simple breakfast she was looking for and similar to the plastic cups of yogurt we used to buy from Meijer all the time. There was caramel in the bottom and a layer of nuts on top.
I didn’t get anything for myself because my breakfast usually just consists of a bottle of Pepsi and we had stocked up on those the night before at the Walgreen down the street.
I did take advantage of another option this small cafe has the next morning when J ordered room service.
Part of La Panderia is the room service portion of the hotel called Fresh Bites. The kitchen is right behind the cash register and you can either have the food delivered or pick it up yourself at the counter. We really took advantage of not having kids and kind of overslept. We had planned on it being a beach day anywhere so we really didn’t have anywhere to go. We called in a room service order and had breakfast delivered.
J got the Broken Yolk sandwich which is a bagel with egg, bacon, and ham. There was so much in between the sliced bread that she couldn’t even get the sandwich in her mouth. The bagel was slightly toasted which made it even better. I screwed up by not getting this sandwich. J was really happy with her choice.
I picked the Scrambled Egg Burrito. The wrap was pretty simple with just sausage, egg, and avocado but the scrambled eggs made the wrap kind of wet. It was fine but I would have been much happier with the sandwich J got. The plus side to mine is I guess it comes with french fries? I didn’t see it on the menu and I didn’t ask for it, but I’m not complaining about it. They were simple, thin and crispy fries but they were quite filling.
La Panderia really worked the way we needed it to work. We grabbed drinks there a couple of times and we grabbed breakfast there a couple of times when we didn’t want to go out. It’s better than typical hotel food but it’s still hotel food. Good for what it is but we’d be much happier on the days we ventured out for brunch.
