Kazoopy’s Pizza & Grinders (Oshtemo)
If you’ve read this blog at all over the last ten years, you’d know Friday pizza night is a tratdition in our house. J’s family did it when she was little and now we’re doing it because everybody likes pizza.
We skip around from place to place. We’ll go a while really liking one delivery pizza place then get tired of it and move on.
One place that continues to stay in the rotation is Kazoopy’s Pizza & Grinders. Even with some order hiccups, double charges, and really long delivery times, we keep going back because the place is so good and they always make it right when something happens.
Kazoopy’s has had two locations for quite a while now. There’s one in Kalamazoo Township on West Main in an old Pizza Hut take out building and one in Oshtemo.
The Oshtemo location had been inside Dougherty’s Country Market for some time but recently, they made the move down the street to a new location.
Kazoopy’s Pizza & Grinders remodeled and moved in to a space near D & R Sports Center on West Main. The small brick building also houses an accounting firm. The space Kazoopy’s moved in to was last used by Barrett’s Smokehouse as their second location before they moved to Stadium Drive.
We decided to do pick up on this order because the last time we placed an order, delivery time was over two hours. Friday nights are busy nights and we get that. No complaints about the delivery time, we just knew we were going to have to wait so we did a pick-up instead.
J put in the order for a large pizza, an order of Garlic Cheese bread, and a BYO salad. The cost was right around $35 with the tip.
I arrived at the shop about twenty minutes after we ordered which is when the online ordering system said the pizza would be ready. Kazoopy’s had to do quite a bit of work to this place to transform it in to a pizza shop from a butcher shop. The order counter is right up front now when you walk in with the big kitchen right behind it. There was one guy working the phones and taking care of customers. He was on a call when I walked in so I kept my distance and let him finish up before approaching the counter.
The rest of the space has been turned in to a dining room. The Daughtrey’s Corner space had no room for tables and there is only room for one or two at the West Main location. This space gives Kazoopy’s a dine-in option once COVID restrictions are totally lifted.
The kids love Kazoopy’s pizza so they were waiting for me when I got home with the boxes of food. We got one large pepperoni pizza and had it cut into the “party cut.” Maybe it’s just the Chicagoans in us but pizza cut in to squares just tastes better….and it’s easier for the kids to handle.
The Garlic Cheese Bread is always a favorite. It goes almost faster than the pizza. The large order of bread is covered in garlic sauce and Parmesan cheese. It also comes with a couple of cups of garlic butter and ranch to dip in. The kids eat it without the dip but I destroy the garlic butter when given the chance. I know eating that much butter isn’t all that healthy but I could eat just the bread with the butter to dip it in and call it a meal.
J did the BYO salad and I knew as soon as I took it out of the bag it wasn’t the right one. The salad is a mix of greens with choice of veggies. I have no idea what she actually ordered but I know it wasn’t mushrooms and tomatoes. That would have been the last thing that she had ordered. She picked out what she could and still made do with what she had.
Kazoopy’s will never not be one of our favorite pizza places. We’ll stop in there all the time for a grinder or order pizzas for our Friday pizza night. One thing we rarely get but I truly love is their St. Louis style pizza. They’re the only ones in town that I’m aware of that makes this style of pizza with the Provel cheese and it’s something that shouldn’t be overlooked if you’re in the mood for something different and unique.
Kazoopy’s Pizza & Grinders will always be in our Friday night rotation.
