More pizza.

Night 2 in New York City took a pause around 7:00. My colleague and I had a lot to do during the day and actually still had a few things to do once we got back to the hotel.

I finished up what I needed to do then headed out for dinner. I wanted to stop at a souvenir store to grab some shirts for my kids so I headed south on 8th Avenue from 39th Street because I saw a place to get crappy, overpriced t-shirts on my walk back to the hotel.

I got the souvenir’s out of the way and noticed a pizza place a little further down 8th Street. I was in the pizza mood again so I just kept walking. It wasn’t that far away and there were quite a few people crowded around it which made me think it was a good place to stop.

2 Bros Pizza is another one of those places that has several locations in New York City. The one I stopped at is on 8th Avenue and 38th Street. The website calls this their “Times Square” location but other businesses in the area call it the Garment District. There are 7 locations in all with one in the Bronx and one in Brooklyn.

The restaurant opens right up to the sidewalk. There’s really only a couple of feet between the long counter and sidewalk. There are glass folding doors that serve as walls when the restaurant is closed or when the weather is too cold. There really isn’t much room other than to be in a single file line making your way towards the cash register.

2 Bros had more options than the usual suspects. On the one hand, you can get 2 slices of cheese and a can of pop for $4. Other the other hand, they have some delicious premium slices that go beyond cheese and pepperoni.

When I got close to the front of the line, the guy working the ovens pointed at me and asked what I wanted. I asked for a slice of pepperoni and a slice of Buffalo chicken. He grabbed two slices then threw them in to the oven. The guy working the cash register asked about drinks. I added on a bottle of Coke. The total for two slices and a Coke was just $9.

There were a couple of tables on the street and there’s even a small dining room kind of back behind the kitchen but I opted to walk back to my hotel. I had gotten a call from my boss back in Michigan. He needed me to send a file before I went to bed so I just headed back to the room and took care of that.

I started with the Buffalo chicken slice this time because I was really curious. Again, super crispy crust all the way through the point without burning any part of the pizza. The slice had a Buffalo sauce base with big chunks of chicken, ranch dressing, and mozzarella cheese. Totally unpopular opinion but I would love it if places used bleu cheese dressing instead of ranch. The slice was still delicious and I would have eaten another had I gotten more.

The pepperoni slice was about the same. Big slices of pepperoni on top of a simply delicious crispy crust. I really can’t get enough of this stuff.

2 Bros Pizza was easily the cheapest pizza I got in New York City on this trip which is probably why they were so busy compared to the other places around my hotel. The pizza was good. It’s hard to mess up this kind of pizza so as long as there’s as places put out a good product, you’re going to be pretty happy with any slice you get.
