Corey’s NYC Bagel Deli (River North)
We were really trying to make L’s birthday weekend special. All she wanted to do was a trip to downtown Chicago. She wanted to eat at Sugar Factory (we did that Friday night), get Starbucks for breakfast, and ice skate at Maggie Daley Park.
We woke up Saturday morning fairly early. The hotel we were staying in is connected to Weber Grill and that’s where they did their breakfast. Breakfast is not included with the stay so we didn’t even walk in to see what it was.
L wanted Starbucks but she doesn’t really love Starbucks breakfast selection. There was a Starbucks right across the street (and around the corner and down the block) so that wasn’t going to be a problem. I wanted to take her some place else to grab something for breakfast though.
L’s favorite breakfast is just a bagel. A plain bagel with cream cheese. As I was looking at Google maps to see what was around us, I saw a place with “bagel” right in the name.
Corey’s NYC Bagel Deli is a small New York Style bagel shop on Dearborn Street near West Grand Avenue in Chicago’s River North Neighborhood. The shop is pretty unassuming with just a sign jutting of the side of the building to let you now you’re heading in the right direction.
The small shop is all carry-out. There’s an order counter near the back of the space while everything else is just kind of open to wait around. We were there pretty early on a Saturday morning in January so the place wasn’t very busy. There were a couple postal workers in front of us and a couple of other tourists right behind us.
My family is pretty simple when it comes to bagels. L and B both just wanted plain bagels with cream cheese. L was super excited about the amount of cream cheese they put on each of the bagels. When B only ate half of his, she jumped across the room to get his other half. She was a big fan.
J went a little “fancier” asking for just a Cinnamon Rasin bagel with cream cheese. Again, lots of cream cheese on a super tasty bagel.
I was the one that had to be “extra.” I’m not gonna lie. I seriously thought about asking if I could order pastrami sandwich at 8:00 in the morning but I just did one of their Breakfast Sandos instead. I picked a delicious garlic bagel with one egg, cheddar cheese, and bacon. It’s basically a create your own so you can add as much as you want to spend to any of their bagels. The garlic bagel was a good choice…although J, who had to smell it on me all day, may disagree.
The cost for our breakfast was just a little over $20 after tip. That didn’t include any drinks because we were still heading back to Starbucks to get L the Frappe she wanted.
Corey’s NYC Bagel Deli was a fantastic start to our day. We didn’t know at the time that things wouldn’t totally pan out the way we were planning for her birthday but she did at least get to start the day with a her favorite breakfast food…a simple, delicious NY style bagel.
