I think I can count on one hands how many times I’ve been to Lenawee County. The answer is three and all three times it was for work.

I worked my regular 9-5 shift in Kalamazoo a few weeks ago then had to sprint out to Lenawee County for some overtime that night. I had a few stops but I eventually ended up in Adrian to close out the night.

Meal time didn’t happen that day just because I had such a tight travel schedule. I knew I was in a “college town” so I was really hopeful there would be a pizza place open past 9:00. I started doing some Google searches and was really happy I found a couple of options.

I picked Pizza Bucket right on the edge of downtown Adrian. The small restaurant sits on a very tight lot on the corner of Winter Street and Church Street. There area only a few parking spaces in front of the restaurant and I was a little surprised to see them all full when I pulled in just before 10:00 on a Friday night.

I had called in my order so I just needed to pick it up. The order window is along the backside of the dining rom. The building isn’t very big but there is plenty of space to sit and eat.

They also have some really cool tables made out of some old wine barrels. It’s kind of a cool design when you think about it. Pizza goes in the middle elevated on the barrel portion of the table so it’s not in anyone’s way to eat.

I ordered a 14″ All Meat Pizza and there was so much meat on the pizza the crust didn’t stand a chance. Pepperoni, ham, sausage, ground beef, and bacon were piled on top of a fairly thin crust covered with a thin, sweet sauce and a lot of mozzarella cheese.

I started eating in the parking lot because I was really hungry and had a two hour drive home. I figured a few slices now and a few slices once I got home.

The pizza was really good. Like so good I stopped at a gas station once I got near Brooklyn and finished it. The meat made it a little salty but I actually really liked that. There was a little bit of sweetness coming through from the sauce that sort of balanced it but let the saltiness really come through.

The cost was a little over $22 and the pizza was totally worth it.

Pizza Bucket is a quintessential college town pizza joint. The pizza is pretty simple but it’s delicious. I ordered a lot of Papa John’s when I was in college….I would have loved to have had a place like this nearby.
