Jersey Giants Subs (Plainwell)
I don’t know if I’ve ever related to a TV character as much as I relate to Joey Tribbiani when he says his favorite food is sandwiches. Sandwiches are so good.
I ate at the new Jersey Mike’s Subs a few weeks ago and it reminded me….I haven’t been to Jersey Giant in a while…and that’s a travesty.
I was in Otsego last week for work and I was hungry. I passed the Jersey Giant in Plainwell on my way to Otsego and the idea of, “I really need to get to Jersey Giant” popped in to my head. As I made my way back to the highway to head back to Kalamazoo, I made a slight detour to grab a sub.
Jersey Giant Subs in Plainwell is on M-89/Allegan Street in Otsego Township near the Home Depot. The small building in front of Southwicks has been a few things over the years. Most recently it was an AT&T store then a vape shop. Last spring, Jersey Giant Subs remodeled the building an opened up the sub shop.
The thing about a sub shop is you don’t need much space. The restaurant is pretty small with just a few tables. The order counter in the back takes up a large portion of the building.
Jersey Giant is like a lot of sub shops but also pretty unique. The sandwiches are huge. The meat is cut fresh to order. The toppings are simple but fresh.
I put in an order for my usual #6…The Boss.
I really considered only getting a half sandwich but what fun is that. One of the unique thing about Jersey Giant is the size. The whole sandwich is 16″. I picked white bread.
The Boss is the Italian meats. Ham, capacola, prostini, salami, pepperoni and cheese. I like to keep my sandwiches simple with just lettuce and banana peppers plus the “Jersey Juice” and salt, pepper, and oregano.
I wasn’t paying attention as the cashier rang me up while the sandwich was being made so I missed out on the Giardiniera. I will put giardiniera on litteraly anything and it’s usually one of my favorite part of my Jersey Giant experience. The hot peppers are $1 extra though and I had already cashed out by the time it came to adding the veggies to my sandwich and didn’t want to be a bother and have them ring up $1.
I don’t think there’s anything Jersey Giant could do to make me say something bad. I’ve loved Jersey Giant from the moment I had it for the first time not long after moving to Lansing almost 14 years ago. The sandwiches are always delicious and there is no way to walk away hungry.
Man. It’s 11pm and now I gotta go raid the refer. Shoulda knowed not to look in on a foodie site this late.
