New York Pizzeria
Getting sent to Upstate New York for work was incredibly exciting. It was really only about a day and a half but we had time to quickly go through the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum…something I’ve wanted to do since I was a little kid.
We were staying in Utica which is about an hour from Cooperstown and we had some work to do once we got back to the hotel. Before we left the Museum, I asked my co-worker if he was up for pizza. I had seen a place on our way in to town…and they had online ordering, so I figured we could do something quick and easy for dinner avoiding having to search for something once we got back to the hotel.
New York Pizzeria is on Chestnut Street at the corner with Delaware Street south of downtown Cooperstown. The building looks pretty new and looking at Google street views seems to confirm that. It appears they took over another business on the corner and turned that in to parking for the two story pizza restaurant that sits there now. The restaurant has a pretty unique look with a dining room with large windows that open up and an outdoor patio tucked in to a space next to the building.
I put in an order online for a large Meat Pizza. I timed it pretty well. When I walked in to the pick up area, the lady working the counter asked if I had put in an online order. I said yes and she grabbed a box from the work station that had just been sliced up and put in to a box ready to go. The cost of the large specialty pizza was close to $30
Co-worker asked if I wanted to seat and eat but we had an hour drive and work to do. I said we could have a slice or two here but we really needed to get going.
I popped open the box on the hood of my car and was pretty happy with what I found inside. The pizza is covered with meat. Pepperoni, ham, sausage, bacon, and meatballs. There was a lot of it.
The pizza is sort of what I think of when I picture New York Style pizza. The large slices with a kind of doughy crust are best if you fold the slice into a sandwich. The crust is a little thicker than what I generally think of with NY style but it was delicious. It was cooked all the way through and even the edges of the crust had a little bit of a bite to them. The sauce was laid on pretty thick but the saltiness of all that meat really won out when it came to the flavor department.
I ate on this pizza for two days. Co-worker grabbed a couple slices when we were driving and maybe had one more once we got back to the hotel.
New York Pizzeria is exactly what we needed after 10+ hours of driving. We hit a service area Subway for lunch so getting something a little heartier and a little more New Yorkier is exactly what I needed.
