Wing Doozy (Wyoming)
I don’t think I’m different from most people when I say I’m always in the mood for wings…..right?
I had another shift in the Grand Rapids area and found myself in Wyoming near Metro Hospital. I met the co-worker I was assigned to work with that night so once we completed our task, we went our separate ways.
It was dinner time and there’s a lot of options in this area of Wyoming. Most of the restaurants in the area are chains but there are a couple local spots. The one with “Wing” in the name is the one that won my attention.
Wing Doozy is a small local chain of three restaurants. This one is on Health Drive SW in Wyoming but you can see it from Byron Center Avenue just off the M-6 exit. The other stores are in Hudsonville and Plainfield Township.
Wing Doozy is strictly carside take out right now. The lobby isn’t even open so you have to either call in an order or use their online ordering system. I did my ordering online which I would have done even if they were open. It was kind of a pain because they only seem to take Paypal online…and I can never remember my Paypal password.
I put in my order for a medium “Fresh Jumbo Traditional Chicken Wings” with buttery garlic parm sauce on half and medium Buffalo on the other. I also got a regular order of french fries. The charge was about $15 before tip.
I took my meal back to the office and started in on the fries right away since they go bad first. The fries were fresh cut and fried crispy. There was a heavy salt and pepper seasoning on them. I ordered the regular fry which was almost too much for me.
I went for the garlic parm wings once I polished off the fries. The wings were super crispy. They aren’t the biggest wings I’ve had in Grand Rapids but they’re definitely bigger than the big wing chains. The garlic parm they use is more of of a butter infused garlic with Parmesan cheese. They were very garlicky and really, every bite was a treat with the crispy skin hiding the juicy wing meat below.
The medium Buffalo wings were pretty much the same but with a sauce with a slight kick. I never got hot Buffalo anymore. I have nothing to prove…no one needs to know how tough I am. The medium gives you that great Buffalo flavor with just a little bit of heat.
I wouldn’t have found this Wing Doozy on my own but the circumstances of my work evening brought me to Wyoming’s Southwest side. The wings were really tasty and a much better option than the big wing chains.
