Another Friday night working away from Kalamazoo means another Friday night of ordering pizzas from two different places for us.  J was actually going to stop at Little Caesars and pick up dinner but the kids decided on pizza Lunchables instead.

I was running a little late getting back to town and we told the kids we’d take them to the dance at L’s school.  I was hungry though having not eaten lunch (again) and wanted something for the car ride home.

We were out in eastern Allegan County right on the Barry County line near Pine Lake.  On our way to the job site, I noticed a grocery store that advertised pizza.  Luckily, they had a Facebook page with a menu so I could call in an order when I started heading back to Kalamazoo.

Pine Lake Grocery is one of those places near a lake that kind of comes out of nowhere.  It’s on Doster Road on the west side of Pine Lake just north of 109th Avenue right inside the Allegan County limits.

The big blue building is mostly a grocery store that probably does most of it’s business in the summer time but there’s also a lot of year round homeowners around this lake and business was brisk on this Friday night just before 6:00.

I called in my order for a 14″ pepperoni and sausage pizza before I left my work site.  They told me about twenty minutes but I went in to the store just a little under fifteen minutes later and it was waiting for me.  The pizza kitchen is in the back of the store with what looks like used to be a deli counter.  There’s not much there now.  I grabbed my pizza box and a couple of Pepsi’s then headed to the front counter to pay.

The cost for the pizza and two pop’s was just under $20.

I opened the box as soon as I got in the car because I knew I wasn’t going to get a chance to eat when I got home.  The pizza is pretty generic with a pretty thick crust that sort of forms a well for the sauce, cheese, and toppings.

The ring around the outside of this pizza was huge.  I’m not a big crust person so this isn’t a plus for me.  It almost needs to come with a dipping sauce on the side.  The pizza is pretty tasty in it’s own right though.  There was a lot of meat both under and on top of the thick layer of cheese that sits on a thick pool of a sweet sauce.

Pine Lake Grocery is definitely solid summer lake house pizza.  The crust is a little thick for my liking but it’s cooked really well.  It’s the type of pizza that will fill you up quickly and it does so in a satisfying way.
