More weekend work.  My side hustle took me to Mt. Pleasant last weekend for another all day job.  I got home Friday night after the kids went to bed and I was up Saturday morning before they even thought about waking up.

J did the soccer thing Saturday morning with L and then a Halloween activity at B’s preschool before heading to St. Joseph County for the night to stay with her parents.  I wasn’t going to get home until around 10:00 anyway so they all would have been in bed before I got home again.

I left Mt. Pleasant just before 8:00 and had only had a Jimmy Johns sandwich to eat for lunch.  I wanted to get out of town before picking something up so I did what I usually do.  I looked for a pizza place along the way.

I had considered going to East Lansing to hit up a brewery before grabbing a pizza but decided against it and headed home taking M-46 to US-131 instead.  I didn’t really know what towns I’d be going through other than Lakeview so that’s where I did my search.

I found Main Street Pizza on South Lincoln and 3rd Street in downtown Lakeview.  The brick building looks like it’s been there for several decades.  Main Street Pizza has been a staple on this corner in Lakeview for quite some time.  I pulled in to downtown about 9:00 so it was easy to find a parking spot in the angled spaces that line both sides of Lincoln.

The small building is big enough for a small order counter right as you walk in the door and a small dining room in a hall that leads to the back of the restaurant.   The space is very clean and looks like it’s been remodeled recently.   The order counter is fronted with grey and black tiles that you usually see used as a backsplash.  I chuckled a little bit when I walked in because I actually recognize them.  We used the same Home Depot tiles as the accent tile when we remodeled our shower last winter.

Even the floors look out of place in a counter service pizza place like this.  It is a pretty new tile floor but it’s the tile that looks like wood planks.  Again, we used the same stuff (although a different tile) when we remodeled the bathroom.  I love the look and have never seen it in a restaurant like this.  It gives a nice, clean, modern look but it’s easier to clean than wood.

The chain dates back to the early 1980’s and has grown to 11 storefronts in Mid-Michigan since the first one opened in Ovid.  They’ve been around a while and have grown so I was looking forward to this stop.  I had never heard of the the chain before but I’m not in this area very often….I also passed a location in Edmore after I had already ordered.

I called in an order for a large pepperoni and Italian sausage pizza.  It was sitting on top of the ovens and ready to go when I got the store.  The cost was a little over $13.

I didn’t want to wait the hour and a half I had yet to drive so I threw the box on top of the hood of my truck and ate a couple of pieces before getting back on the road.

The pizza looks like typical delivery type pizza, but it had a much better flavor than the chains.  The crust was soft and chewy, there was an abundance of a thick, semi-sweet marinara and the Italian sausage had that slightly sweet, slightly spicy bite.  The first thing I really noticed is that the top of the pizza wasn’t greasy….not from the two meats…not from the cheese separating.  Just a solid, delicious pizza.  The large lasted me almost three days.  I got at least three meals out of it because no one in my family likes Italian sausage.

Main Street Pizza is a great hometown pizza place.  It’s easy to see why they’ve been around for so many years.  I don’t travel through this way very often, but this was a nice surprise to find a place that was delicious and fairly cheap.
