Mancino’s Pizza & Grinders – Hastings
For a while, it seemed like I was blogging about a different Mancino’s every few weeks. I was working with a co-worker who really liked the grinders quite a bit. I wasn’t complaining though. I like them too.
I haven’t worked with that co-worker in a while, so it has been a while since I’ve stopped at a restaurant with the Mancino’s name on it.
This past week, I was driving through Hastings and I asked the co-worker I was with if I could stop and pick up something to eat. He said he didn’t care and was able to get some work done while I was picking up a sandwich.
The Hastings location of Mancino’s PIzza & Grinders is on State Street (also M37/43) on the west side of town in the K-Mart shopping center.
Since C.W. wasn’t in the mood to eat, my plan was just to make a stop to pick something up then get back on the road. At the time, we were supposed to be heading straight back to the office in Grand Rapids, so I wasn’t worried about the drive.
I didn’t stray from my usual Mancino’s order. I asked for the 16″ Pizza Grinder. The cost was a little over $11 and my sandwich took about ten minutes to cook.
My plan didn’t work out quite as I was hoping as we got detoured to another assignment on our way back to Grand Rapids, so the sandwich had to wait a little bit longer than I was anticipating. The smell was driving me nuts, but I knew I couldn’t eat while driving and C.W. was working on something in the passenger seat, so I couldn’t ask him to drive either.
When I finally did get back to the office, I ripped open the paper bag containing the foil wrapped grinder and found….a pretty overdone loaf of bread. I have eaten at the Mancino’s in Hastings on a couple occasions and have always had delicious sandwiches, but this time, while there was probably more sauce, cheese, and pepperoni than I’ve ever had on a Mancino’s grinder, the bread was a little on the burnt side. I like it when there some little burnt pieces around the edge of the bread, but on this sandwich, all of the bread was on the dark side.
So, not a great experience at this Mancino’s on this trip, but it happens. I’ve eaten there in the past and everything came out great, but this time, it just didn’t happen.
