J sort of let me sleep in this morning.  About 11:30 she went down to the basement to throw in a load of laundry leaving L on the floor watching TV.  L didn’t like that.  Not long after J left, L started screaming.  I got up to see why she was screaming because she doesn’t do that when one of us are with her.  As soon as I picked her, she stopped then I went looking for mommy.

Since I was up, I asked J if she wanted to go out to eat.  She was up for it so we got L ready and got out the door.

I’ve been wanting to go to The Fly Inn near Plainwell, but we got there as they were closing up for the day.  They only do breakfast on Sunday and close at noon.

Since we were already in Plainwell, I figured we should just stay in town and check out someplace we haven’t been yet.

Player’s Grill is right on M-89 on the west side of US 131 near the Walmart.  It’s a pretty non-descript building that really would have never drawn my interest except for the sign near the road.  Underneath the pertinent information (ie. name of the restaurant) is another sign that says “Food Inspired by Niskers.”  That did it for me.

We walked in to the restaurant about 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon and found a pretty mixed crowd.  There were a few people sitting at the bar watching the Red Wings game, but there were also some older people sitting in the small dining area between the bar and the pool tables enjoying lunch.

J and I headed for a table pretty far away from the bar.  There was a row of tables that had bench seating on one side and that works out great for L.  We can just set the car seat on the bench and stay out of the way.

The menus were already on the table, but a waitress followed us to the table to get drink orders.  I really, really wanted a Pepsi…you have no idea how bad I was craving a Pepsi.  Lucky for me, they had Pepsi.  J got a Sierra Mist.

This is something I’ve never said before.  Both of us ordered burgers.  Yeah.  Both of us.  That’s not really unusual for me, but I have never seen J order a burger at an actual restaurant.  At Wendy’s?  Yeah.  But never at a restaurant.

I played it a little safe and ordered the Barbecue Bacon Cheddar Burger instead of the 4-Alarm Burger.  The 1/2lb. grilled burger is topped with a tangy BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheddar cheese.  As you would expect from anything that is “inspired by Nisker’s,” the meat had a great flame kissed taste.  I was actually a little surprised at the BBQ sauce.  It had a little bit of a tangy kick to it and there was a lot of it.  There was enough that I was able to dip my fries in what dripped off the burger.

J ordered the Hot Pepper Bacon burger.  This half pound burger comes topped with pepperjack cheese and smoked bacon.  She said the burger was good, but it was a little too much meat for her.  She would have been happier with a smaller patty, but she still enjoyed the flavor of the sandwich with the crispy bacon and the pepper jack cheese.

Instead of the regular fries that come with the meal, J upgraded to the Brew City Beer Battered fries.  She really liked these and cut back on eating the burger to make sure she had room for all the fries.

Our bill was a little over $23.  Player’s Grill is pretty much what you expect from a pub.  It’s one of those places that if we lived in town, we’d probably eat at a lot, but it wasn’t so unique that we would make a special trip back.  Still, it’s a good option when you’re in the Plainwell area.
