There was no break for us after getting back from New York. It was right back to work. I made it a couple days without having to buy a meal out, but by Saturday, I was running out of food at home and could only go so long at work before getting that headache I get when I go too long without eating.
On my way into work on Saturday, I got US-131 at 28th Street because of a major backup due to construction. I decided to cut down Division to get to Wealthy. Along the way, I passed several restaurants that I want to get back to sometime, but out of the corner of my eye, I saw a green and white building with two words that will always get me stop. Fried Chicken.
New York Fried Chicken has a Division address, but the storefront is actually on Franklin Street. It’s part of a small strip mall which also has a liquor store. The space the chicken place takes up is a small storefront with only a two tables in front of an order counter.
When I walked in, I was met by someone who asked if I called in an order. I hadn’t since I couldn’t find a menu anywhere on line. I picked up a paper menu from the counter and went looking for something to eat.
While fried chicken is part of the name, they also do burgers, gyros, fish, and Italian beef. Even being tempted by an Italian beef, I went with the three piece chicken and fries. I paid the $6 my meal costs then took a seat at one of the two tables to wait for my order. I figured it would be a little while to cook the chicken so I was surprised when the order came up in less than ten minutes.
On the way back to work, I dug into the fries which were pretty standard restaurant shoestring fries. They were plentiful which is about the only thing I can say about them. Not bad, but nothing special.
When I got back to work, I dug in to the chicken which I noticed had sort of a reddish orange tint to it. My best guess is there was hot sauce in the breading because the chicken was actually pretty spicy. It wasn’t super hot, but just enough that I had to buy a second pop from the pop machine to help me finish off all three pieces.
Other than the hot sauce, the chicken didn’t stand out too much. It was a little greasy and the breading didn’t stick to the meat very well, but it didn’t slide off onto my lap either. It was good chicken, but not great.
The meal also came with two dinner rolls which were just taken out of a bag and thrown on top of the chicken and fries at the last minute. Again, nothing special here, but it added more food.
The value was great. I got a lot of food for not much more than six bucks. The food was good, but not spectacular which I didn’t really expect for that price. I had no qualms about quality for the price I paid.
