Shelby Campbell’s Eatery & Bar

Friday at the Southport Summer Classic in Pleasant Prairie, WI was exhausting.
We only had one competing and she was done by early afternoon. It wasn’t a great day for her though so after finishing up at the Pleasant Prairie Rec Plex, we headed back to the hotel for a while.
J and L wanted to head over to the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets to do some shopping. I asked J if she had plans on buying anything for B. She said no so I asked if we could just stay in the hotel and watch TV.
My parents came to town for the event too and they too went to the Outlets on their own to look for some things. J ran in to them and dinner was brought up. I had already told my mom I could just meet them at the restaurant at our hotel since it was right across the street and I honestly was not up for venturing out to Kenosha.
We made plans to meet at the restaurant around 3 PM. L wanted to go back to the rink to watch friends so J took her back. She and my parents pulled in to the parking lot of the DoubleTree hotel we were staying in at the same time so B and I headed downstairs to meet them.
Shelby Campbell’s Eatery & Bar listed address both on it’s website and on Google Maps is on 108th Street in Pleasant Prairie. It’s connected to the DoubleTree by Hilton Pleasant Prairie that has an address of 120th Street in Pleasant Prairie. The road that runs in front of the building is 120th Street. 108th Street is the road at the curve that 120th turns in to so as long as you look for the DoubleTree, you’ll find the restaurant. It’s right across the street from the Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets and runs right along I-94/41 on the very south side of Pleasant Prairie. There is a large parking lot for the hotel and plenty of parking in front of the main entrance for the restaurant which is on the west side of the building.

I was being kind of lazy when I told my parents to just meet us here. Hotel restaurants can be pretty hit or miss but they there is a lot of advertisement for Shelby Campbell’s throughout the DoubleTree. There’s a sign right next to the elevators so it’s the first thing you see when you get off on the first floor.

There are also signs on the elevators themselves so you have to look at a delicious burger as you haul your suitcases up to your room.

As I mentioned, there is an entrance from the outside but since we were already in the hotel, we used to the hallway connecting the lobby to the restaurant to get there.

You have to walk through the first dining room to get back to the main entrance to where the host stand is. It was still pretty early in the day so this dining room was not being used yet.

The host stand is right inside the main doors and leads to the bar which is in it’s own room. This restaurant seemed really sectioned off and kind of closed up a bit. All of the spaces were kind of on the small side and there were full walls separating everything. The bar had a nice big horseshoe bar in the middle of the room. This space was darker than the dining rooms because there was no natural light coming in. It was lit entirely by a chandelier in the middle of the room.

The bartender was also the hostess and the waitress. She told us to take a able in the dining room next to the bar and she’d be out with menus. Like the first dining room we walked through, the space feels a little small. There is a row of booths on one side then a combination of four tops and larger round tables on the other. The space is lit with natural light from large windows on the west side of the room. There were five of us and the bartender offered to push two four tops together if we wanted but there were round tables with enough seats so we just took one of those.

The menu was much smaller than I was expecting it to be but there was still enough that everyone found something to eat.
We actually started with an appetizer. Both my mom and J really liked fried pickles and they have Buttermilk Fried Pickles on the menu. These are dill pickle chips fried in a cornmeal batter. My mom will eat any fried pickles but J really, really likes the chips so these were just what she wanted. The plate comes with a ranch and a chipotle mayo to dip. I don’t really like fried pickles but I tried one just to dip in the Chipotle mayo because everyone was talking about how it was. It was a little spicy but could have been spicier for me.

I did the BBQ Bacon Burger. This sandwich is a burger patty topped with cheddar cheese, bacon, onion straws, lettuce, tomato, and BBQ sauce on a brioche bun. I asked to leave the onion off instead of trying to pick them off myself. The sandwich was a solid, classic bacon cheeseburger with BBQ sauce. It was simple and delicious. I was tired, hungry, and didn’t want to put much effort in to dinner. I got a good meal and didn’t have to go too far.

The burger came with fries. They were frozen, skin-on fries…my favorite kind of frozen fries. The fries came with both ketchup and mustard. I swapped my ketchup for my dad’s mustard so I had two full cups of mustard and I used both of them.

J ordered off the appetizer menu and got the Loaded Totchos. This huge plate was filled with tots, cheddar cheese, bacon, scallions, ranch and sour cream. There was way more food here than she could eat on her own. She said the tots smothered in cheese and ranch were delicious. She ate about half the plate before having to surrender.

B said he wasn’t hungry so he didn’t eat. My dad got a simple cheeseburger and my mom had the Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons.
The cost for our meal was around $60….mostly because I just had a Coke to drink and didn’t order a beer this time.
Shelby Campbell’s Eatery & Bar was convenient for us but it also brought out some tasty food. I mentioned it earlier as well but hotel restaurants can be so hit or miss. This one worked out pretty well. J, B, and I headed back to the room to relax a little bit longer before rejoining L at the rink for some of the higher level events and my parents still had the evening to do what they wanted without having to worry about what was for dinner.
