I can’t believe my daughter is about to go in to high school.

Tuesday night was her 8th Grade promotion ceremony at Chenery Auditorium. The ceremony started at 6 PM and I’m not scheduled to get out of work until 6:30. I figured I’d be fine if I finished my shift then headed over there but then we got an email saying doors were going to close at 6:15.

Crap!

Luckily, my boss understood. He told me to get my stuff done for the day then get over to Chenery for the ceremony.

I was scrambling kind of all day to get my stuff done and fortunately, my colleague understood the assignment. We finished up with what we needed to do a little before 5:30 and I made it to Chenery in plenty of time.

The thing that got cut out though was my lunch break. I didn’t have time to stop and eat. By the time the two hour ceremony got over about 8:00, I was really hungry.

I just wanted something quick and I knew I had a lot of options along Westnedge, but it it was a movie tie-in that won my stomach that night.

I stopped at the Burger King on Westnedge Avenue and Whitcomb Street just north of White’s Road. This is one of those BK’s that have been around forever, but they got updated to the newer Pavilion Design back in 2016.

I went inside to order and found kind of a weird layout. You walk in to the dining room right in front of you but the order area is off ot the left kind of in it’s own area. It’s a weird almost “Z” shaped design instead of the usual box. The order counter was unmanned which was fine for me.

The reason I was fine with that? They had order kiosks. Last time I went to a Burger King, on Stadium Drive, they did not have the kiosks. It was almost the reason I didn’t stop at this one. I really prefer the kiosks at fast food places and was really happy to see this location has them.

It was the tie-in with The Mandalorian and Grogu that got me in the door so I ordered one of the movie tie-in meals. I ordered the BBQ Bounty Whopper Meal with the Collectible Cup and added an extra burger patty and made the fries a large. I also added in an order of Grogu’s Garlic Chicken fries. The cost was just under $20. As soon as the order went through, someone from the back came out with three plastic cups and asked me which one I wanted. I chose the green one then filled it up with Coke. As I turned around, she asked if I also wanted a regular large cup. I said no, this was fine. I’m assuming most people don’t actually use the cup but as someone who has a lot of fast food crap from the 80’s, none of it is worth any money and stuff that people are actively collecting now to make money off of one day won’t be either because there will be too many people with that crap.

There was a lot of confusion with my meal. I guess adding an extra patty and taking off tomatoes really confused the guy putting it together. I told him the tomatoes were fine. I’d take them off. He ended up putting the extra patty in a separate box though so when I get home, I did have to kind of assemble my own sandwich.

The sandwich is a pretty typical whoppper. The patties are “flame grilled” Swiss cheese, crispy pickle chips, bacon, lettuce, tomatoes, and a “creamy” BBQ sauce. It’s supposed to come in a box shaped like a Mandalorian helmet but I didn’t get that. Again, don’t really care. I’ve really come around to Whoppers as an adult. I hated them as a kid but the more I eat them, the more they grow on me. I did like that this one had bacon and a Swiss cheese which is different from the regular Whopper so there is a bit of a specialness to the Mandalorian meal.

Burger King’s fries are “meh.” Definitely not my favorite fast food fries but there is nothing really wrong with them. They’re not good enough that I would go out of my way to go to Burger King for but they do the job when I go for a burger and need more food.

I was really kind of looking forward to the Grogu Garlic Chicken Fries…but they were out of them. I told them to just give me regular Chicken Fries. I know B really likes them so if I didn’t eat them, he would. We all kind of ate them in the end. I had a few. J and L had a few to so they didn’t go to waste but I still want to try the Garlic ones.

When I got to the bottom of the bag, there was still one more box in there. I had no idea what it was because I didn’t order anything else. They must have thought I ordered the Bounty Bundle which also comes with Imperial Cheddar Ranch Tots. Again, they didn’t come in the Mandalorian packaging which should have a picture of a Storm Trooper on them. I didn’t have any interest in these but J ended up eating some of them. They were fine but I thought they were kind of bland. J asked if I got any dipping sauce for them but I didn’t actually order them so I didn’t ask for any.

This was an interesting trip to Burger King. The food was all fine and it was tasty. I was really hungry so I ordered a little extra which seemed to confuse the kitchen. In the end, it was all fine and it all worked out. I went to bed with a full belly. I just had to laugh at all the changes and additions that had to be made on the fly.
