Waffle House (Nashville West)
My kids love breakfast.
We don’t eat out nearly as much as we used to. I got pretty frustrated trying to get through a meal at a sit down restaurant. One of them would inevitably whine the entire time about being so hungry then take two bites of their meal and ask if they could be done. We were lucky when it was only one of them.
The one thing they will always eat though is breakfast. The few meals we do eat out anymore, we try to go to a breakfast spot.
It’s even better when we can go that breakfast spot at night and still get breakfast.
We were in Nashville last week for a figure skating competition. There were hotels close to the Centennial Sportsplex where the event was being held but they were kind of out of our price range.
J found a hotel about ten minute away with a decent prize. Even better, there was a Waffle House in the parking lot.
The Waffle House on the west side of Nashville is on White Bridge Place right off White Bridge Pike next to the interchange with I-40. The restaurant is right up against the road and White Bridge Place is really easy to miss as the road is only a few feet from the entrance ramp to EB I-40. It literally shares a parking lot with the Comfort Inn that we were staying in. We could have went to this Waffle House at any point over the three days we were there, but we choice to go for a late dinner on Friday night. We got back from the rink, parked the car by the hotel then walked over to the Waffle House.
I say this pretty much every time I blog about a Waffle House. If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all.
The restaurant is long and narrow. Right as you walk in, there’s a lunch counter for the solo diners looking to grab a quick meal.
There are tables to either side. One side has booths and an extension of the lunch counter that is lower and set up more like a two top table…but it’s only a one top and it’s connected to three others.
We headed to the other side and grabbed a booth. There are menus already on the table so we each grabbed one and started looking it over as the waitress brought over water.
J and L were both super excited to get the grilled cheese. It’s so simple but there really is nothing better than a diner grilled cheese. Waffle House’s is nothing fancy. White bread, American cheese, grilled. They were both looking forward to it all day and both really excited to finally get to Waffle House to get it. J got hash browns on the side and they were cooked really crispy..just the way she likes it. She doesn’t do any toppings.
L passed on hash browns and got a side of bacon. Also nice and crispy….just the way she likes it.
B got a waffle. They actually screwed up the first one they made him so he had to wait a few minutes while they made a new one. When you have “Waffle” in the name, your waffles should probably be perfect. B loves Waffle House’s waffles with just a little bit of butter and syrup. He also got a side of bacon to go with his waffle.
The Delmonico Steak and Eggs is my go-to breakfast at Waffle House but my go-to dinner is the Texas Bacon Cheesesteak melt. I have no idea why I like this sandwich so much. It’s thinly sliced steak with cheese, bacon (and onions I left off) served on Texas Toast. It’s a little bit tricky to eat but it’s so delicious by diner standards. I’ve gotten this a few times when we’ve gone to Waffle House for dinner and I’m never disappointed.
The plate comes with hash browns. I get them with jalapenos, cheese, and ham but she must not have heard me say ham. There wasn’t any on the plate and I wasn’t charged for them. The hash browns are so crispy…the way hash browns should be. The cheese is just a slice of American cheese placed over the top and melted. There were only a couple of jalapenos on the potatoes but it was enough to give them a little kick.
Our bill for dinner was right around $30. Seriously, you can’t beat that for four of us.
Waffle House never disappoints. It’s not fine dining by any stretch of the imagination but it always delivers exactly what we want.
