Finally got back to the whole Friday night pizza thing.

My Friday overtime shift was on the Eastside of Kalamazoo. I didn’t have time to eat between my normal day time shift and the overtime shift so I grabbed a pop and a snack from the Speedway and hoped I could make it through the night.

I got done with my work around 9:45. I was in the Parchment area at the time and I was hungry for a pizza. There are some good local places on that side of town (Kazoopy’s and Jaspare’s come to mind) but they close pretty early. I knew it was going to have to be a chain pizza shop.

I looked at my options and found one that I haven’t ordered from in quite a while. Made my decision a little bit easier.

Jet’s Pizza in Comstock Township is on Gull Road near Jennings Drive. The small, take out only shop is in a four store shopping plaza across the street from the Menards. The Michigan based pizza chain has had a shop in this location for well over a decade.

I put in an order online for a 4-Corner pizza with cupped pepperoni and Italian sausage. The cost was a little over $15 and I had just enough time to stop at Speedway, again, to grab a pop before getting to the shop just as it was coming out of the oven.

The restaurant, like I mentioned earlier, is a carry-out only space. The decor is a combination of subway tiles on the walls and large red, green, and white tiles on the floor. It’s the color of the Italian flag but also the color of Jet’s branding.

There is one small metal bench underneath the menu boards if you have to wait but there’s no place to sit and eat even if you wanted to.

I love the 4 Corner Pizza from Jet’s. It’s definitely the best one from the bigger chains. In fact, it’s how a lot of my Chicago area have come to appreciate Detroit style pizza. The only exposure they had until Jet’s moved in was Little Caesars….and that didn’t win anyone over.

The pizza was everything I needed at that moment. The crust was that delicious, crunchy buttery crust along the outside and soft and buttery in the middle. I had it finished with the “Turbo Crust” which is a combination of butter, garlic, and Romano cheese. The pizza was topped with crispy cupped pepperoni and big pinches of Italian sausage. I opened up the box in the car wanting to take a bite but was afraid I’d drip all the delicious meat juices on the front of my shirt so I waited until I drove back across town and got home.

Jet’s Pizza is always winner for me. I don’t get it a lot because I always want the Detroit style and it’s a little more expensive. I was good with just the 4-slice on this night. I was the only one eating and I didn’t need leftovers. I had to get up early and drive to Dearborn (you’ll hear about that soon) so there wasn’t going to be an opportunity to eat leftovers for lunch.

This stop finally got me back on my Friday night pizza nights and it was something I really needed.
