New location.  New blog.

You’ve all read this story many times.  I have a soft spot for Jersey Giant Subs.  They’re so freakin’ delicious and so filling.  Sometimes it’s one meal.  Sometimes it’s two.  It just depends on the day.

I’ve had it pretty easy at work the last couple of weeks.  I’ve traveled a little bit and I’ve worked alone a little bit.  When I work alone, my day is typically easier …not always but it was during this stretch.

I had a few tasks to complete in the morning late last week.  I went back out to Oshtemo then to Portage then back towards Kalamazoo.   I was hungry for a sandwich and didn’t want Jimmy Johns so I went a little out of my way and came back to Kalamazoo via US-131 and Stadium Drive.

This brought me right past the newest Jersey Giant Subs location.  True, there has been a JGS in this area for a few years but it moved down the street in to a new store front.

The new Stadium Drive location of Jersey Giant Subs is just down the street from the old one.  It’s in the small shopping center with Jet’s Pizza between Los Amigos and Sweetwater’s on Stadium Drive at Adios Drive in the Oakland/Winchell Neighborhood.  This space was not a restaurant prior to Jersey Giant moving in.  It was actually a AAA Insurance office.

Same story. Different location. I’ve blogged enough about Jersey Giant you know how this works. There’s a long order counter where you order. Meats are sliced fresh and layered on to bread that’s made in house. Then there’s a small list of veggies you can top the sandwich with before it’s sliced in to quarters (if you get a whole sandwich) and wrapped up.

There’s a small dine in are with the words Jersey Giant Subs painted in large letters on the wall.  I don’t think I’ve ever actually eaten inside a JGS before. I usually grab my sandwich to go so the oil and vinegar can marinate into the bread a little bit more.

I was going to be good an just order half a sandwich but I changed my mind before the bread was cut and got a whole. I figured I could eat the second half for dinner…..if I could actually stop myself from eating it all for lunch. I was apparently trying to challenge myself.

I picked the #6 The Boss. This sandwich is a lot of meat. It’s ham, capicola, prostini, salami, pepperoni and cheese. I chose the white bread then got it topped with lettuce, banana peppers, pickles, oil, vinegar, spices, and for an extra buck, I added on the giardiniera. Always pay the extra buck and add the giardiniera. It makes the sandwich amazing. Yes, it’s the Chicagoan in me but the giardiniera is what makes me really crave this sandwich (well, that and the bread….and the pile of meat).

I was kinda, sorta good. I quickly ate two of the slices then wrapped up the rest for later. I actually made it about two and a half hours before I reached in the fridge to grab another quarter….then just thought screw it, I might as well finish it.

Jersey Giant Subs always delivers an amazing sandwich. I just love this place. Many years ago, they had a store on Drake Road and it closed…and I was so sad. Then they opened up on Stadium Drive and I was happy again. It really doesn’t matter to me where it’s at as long as it’s close enough to me that I can get an oversized amazing sandwich anytime I want.
