A1 Wings & Crab
I feel like I’ve spent a lot of time in Battle Creek lately.
I was there again one day last week by myself. I had a fairly easy day at work. I didn’t have a co-worker with me, so I completed my assignment then had a big gap in my day so I decided to seek out lunch.
The list of quick takeout places in Battle Creek I haven’t been to is dwindling but I still have a few. I decided to go search out a wing place I’ve seen ads for.
A1 Wings and Crab is on Columbia Avenue at Ferndale Court. It’s right across the street from Taqueria San Francisco. The restaurant is part of a small, three store building. A1 is in the big corner space. It was a Papa Murphy’s for a long time before they closed an A1 moved in.
I could have done an online order but I was driving when I remembered I hadn’t been here yet. It’s a typical counter service restaurant so I figured it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if I just went in an ordered. I wasn’t in a huge hurry so I could wait for the food to be cooked
I put in an order for the 10 wing combo which comes with fries and a drink. The cost was right around $15. I paid that with my card then grabbed a Styrofoam cup and filled it up with Pepsi.
There is a pretty small dine in area in the store. There are three tables. I sat at one waiting for my food to come up but I wanted to get back to Kalamazoo so I took the wings to go.
It took about fifteen minutes for the wings to cook. Wings are pretty expensive so I was pretty surprised by how much food I got for $15. At a lot of place, I couldn’t even get ten wings for that price.
I wasn’t going to eat those in the car but I figured I could dig in to the fries while I was driving. The fries were really simple. They were typical out-of-the-bag frozen skin-on fries. Tasty but nothing really special.
They have several sauces to choose from for the wings but I stuck with my old standby…garlic parmesan. The wings weren’t the best wings I’ve ever had but they were still delicious. They were a pretty good size and juicy all the way through. The meat was a little touch but that very well could have been because they were in the box for quite a while and they cooked a little more before I got to them. The garlic parm sauce was a buttery, garlic dressing that was laid on pretty thick.
A1 Wings & Crab is good for what it is. It’s a quick, tasty fried food place. The rings aren’t quite sit down restaurant quality but you’re not paying sit down restaurant prices either. This was a great meal coming in at right around $15.
