Nob Hill Bar & Grill
Home alone for a few nights. J and L area in Wisconsin for a figure skating camp and we don’t have daycare or camp this week so B is at Nana and Grandpa’s. I still had to work so I’ve spent the week checking out restaurants I’ve been wanting to go to and watching Kalamazoo Growlers baseball on ESPN+.
I’ve had some places I’ve wanted to go to for a while and I figured this week was as good as any to see which one of those places I could get to.
My first night I got off work a little late. I wanted to keep it simple and there’s a couple bars I’ve been wantingon to hit but didn’t know if they were places I could take the family.
The first place on my list was Nob Hill Bar & Grill. We’ve driven by this place on Sprinkle Road just north of Kilgore for years. It’s close to Wings Event Center and we used to take B to preschool in the area. I’ve wanted to stop at this place for quite a while but the lack of menu online…even though they have a website, has always scared me away.
The bar is pretty large. I walked in around 7:00 on a Tuesday night. There were a few regulars sitting at the bar and a group that was huddled around a computer at the bar like they were getting a little work done while having a couple of beers.
There is a really large dining room type area with tables and chairs. There’s also a stage area in the corner that gets work from bands a few nights a week.
This is also a pretty good place if you’re looking to shoot some pool. There are several pool tables on the other side of a bar area that separates the dining area
I took a seat at the bar near where the group of regulars were sitting. The beer list was written on a board above the kitchen door. It was all macros so I asked for a Budweiser. I did notice a little later there was a draft list with one IPA on it but this is the kind of bar you drink a Budweiser in.
The menu, which isn’t posted on their website, is pretty much what I expected. Fried foods, burgers, and sandwiches.
I love burgers from places like this so I flipped the menu over and had a decision to make.
I picked the Big Red. This burger is two 1/4 lb patties topped with bacon, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and mayo. I asked to leave the onion off and ultimately took the lettuce, tomato off once I got it. Bar burgers are the best. They’re usually a little salty, a little greasy, and full of flavor. This burger was all of that. It’s the kind of burger that really hits the spot after a long day of work with a tall glass of beer.
I added on the fries to make it a basket. The fries weren’t anything special. Dumped out of a bag into hot oil. The bartender brought some salt and pepper shaker and I used both to give the fries a little bit of flavor.
My bill for dinner was just over $20 before tip.
Nob Hill Bar & Grill is pretty much what I was expecting. It’s a great little blue collar bar. Cold beer and simple, delicious food. I’ve driven by this place so many times. I no longer have to wonder what I’m missing out on.
