I keep seeing ads for Marco’s Pizza and for the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why. I know there are a couple in the Grand Rapids area but it seemed weird I was getting targeted ads for them in the Kalamazoo area.

The ads were working though. I kinda wanted a Marco’s Pizza. It has been years since I’ve seen a Marco’s. There are a couple in Grand Rapids but the last time I actually ate at a Marco’s was in 2009 in Lansing.

Turns out, I was seeing those ads because one was recently opened in Battle Creek.

I took an overtime shift in Battle Creek one night last week. I had worked my full shift during the day but then had to go to Battle Creek for a few hours after that. I hadn’t eaten much and I wanted to pick up something quick and easy. Pizza it is.

Marco’s Pizza in Battle Creek is right off I-94 on Capital Avenue Southwest. It’s part of the Capital Shoppes shopping plaza.

I put in the order online from Kalamazoo before I started towards Battle Creek. By the time I got to the small shop, my pizza was ready. The restaurant is carry-out only. The inside of the shop is only big enough for a small waiting room and an order counter at the edge of the kitchen.

I was eating alone so I kept it simple. I ordered a large thin crust Pepperoni Magnifico. The pizza has a delightfully thin crispy crust. There are two kinds of pepperoni…Old World and Classic and they are piled on top of this pizza. The thin crust is cut in to squares which I think you all in Michigan call “party cut.”

I really liked this pizza. My plan was to eat a few slices then save the rest until after I was done with my assignment for the night…but no, that didn’t happen. I ate the whole thing sitting in the parking lot.

I was really happy with my pick of a thin crust pizza. I know you don’t really get as much food but I’m going to take taste over quantity. The thin crust was so crispy and it just snapped with each bite.

The ads always draw me in to pizza places…even the chains. We don’t have any in Kalamazoo so I was excited to get another shot at Marco’s. It’s been quite a while.

We had one, but it closed well over a decade ago. Good stuff.

I moved to Kalamazoo in 2009. It must have been closed before then. I don’t remember there ever being one here since I’ve been here.
