Broadway Grille – Coldwater
Coldwater is not a part of the state you find me in very often. In fact, before last week, I had never actually been in Coldwater. I was totally flying blind when I got sent that way for a job assignment and had no idea where I was going to go for lunch. I didn’t have time to scout anything out, so Google was going to have to save me.
Turns out, Google didn’t have to. One of the people I met on this assignment recommended a place unsolicited. I figured she was familiar with the area and the place she pointed me towards was right around the corner so why the heck not?
The Broadway Grille is on Monroe Street in downtown Coldwater just to the south of U.S 12 (or W. Chicago Street) which is the main thoroughfare through town.
This location is one of three Broadway Grille’s in the area and it’s the newest. The original is on Broadway Street in Union City with the other on Michigan Avenue in Marshall. This paragraph is kind of important to the story. You’ll see why in a second (if you haven’t already figured it out).
I ended up spending a lot longer in Coldwater than I had initially planned, so I took my lunch break while I was waiting around. I looked up the bar that was recommended to me and found a Facebook page. From the facebook page, it took me to a menu page on their website.
When the restaurant was described to me, the one thing that was brought up was the bar which was topped with pennies. I saw this one the Facebook page and didn’t even bother to check the location. In my haste to get food ordered, I just assumed it was the right bar and didn’t realize there were three locations.
I called the number on the menu page and put in an order for Scott’s BBQ Burger. I was told it would be about 15 minutes, so I gave it a few then walked around the corner to pick up my food.
When I walked in to the bar and told them I had a carry-out, they looked a little confused. You see where this is going.
Turns out, I called the Marshall location. They had a burger waiting for me there, but the Coldwater location didn’t. The owner was standing right there was very nice about the whole thing. Turns out, there is very little information on the Coldwater location on the web including their website and Facebook page. The location has only been open a couple of months and their IT guy hasn’t done any updating yet. They offered to make me another burger if I didn’t mind waiting. I didn’t and I actually felt bad because that was money coming out of their pocket to cover the burger sitting in Marshall.
I waited about another five minutes at the bar for my burger to be made fresh. They’ve got a really nice space in an old row building in downtown Coldwater. It’s got a lot of the charm you would expect from such a place and the bar topped with thousands of pennies is actually pretty cool as well.
Once my burger was ready, one of the waitresses bagged it up for me and brought the bill. The cost of the sandwich was exactly $9.00. I tipped a lot more than I normally would just for the confusion I caused by not paying attention.
I grabbed my sandwich and headed back to my car to eat. I was waiting on something that I really couldn’t miss, so I didn’t want to spend too much time away.
I started in with the burger. The sandwich, called Scott’s BBQ Burger, is an Angus beef patty topped with BBQ sauce, American cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, pickle, and haystack onions. I had them leave the haystack onions off although I normally don’t do that for picture purposes for this blog, but I did this time without thinking, so that’s why the picture doesn’t reflect that.
The burger was actually quite tasty and I’m convinced it would have tasted delicious without the BBQ sauce. The BBQ sauce was good…it’s just that the burger meat had that fresh, juicy taste to it and that’s what I really like in a burger. As it was, the sandwich was delicious with just enough of the sweet BBQ sauce to hold the crispy pieces of bacon on to the melted American cheese.
The sandwich came with really well seasoned skin-on fries. Lots of salt and pepper made the crispy potatoes
Other than the little set-back, which was totally my fault, I very much enjoyed the Broadway Grille. It’s the kind of spot I could see hanging out at and always getting a delicious meal. With three locations in the area, you know they’re doing something right.
