503 Military AvenueFound them! It took me a couple trips working on the vague recollection of some Grand Rapids co-workers, but I finally found the gourmet cupcakes I was looking for a couple weeks ago.
Turns out, there is no kiosk or shop at the Lakeview Square Mall. Nope. The cupcakes are actually at the Springfield Farmers’ Market.
The BC Cupcake Factory is part of Bill’s Hot Dog Factory. The yummy looking cupcakes sit on the order counter in glass display cases. I ended up getting lunch and four cupcakes on my journey to the Cupcake Factory.
There were only a dozen or so on display, but there were so many that looked good, I didn’t know where to start.
Well, not totally true. There was one that just jumped out of the glass dome at me. It was the Chocolate Dream. This simple cupcake is dark chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting and chocolate chips. I had a really hard time waiting until lunch was over to dive in.
I don’t know if my mouth has stopped working or what, but getting a large cupcake like this in my mouth has become a challenge. Either my mouth is getting smaller or the cupcakes keep getting bigger…I’m leaning towards bigger cupcakes.
Since I couldn’t get the whole thing in my mouth without making a mess, I just picked up a fork and ate it that way. The dark chocolate cake and the creamy vanilla frosting was decadent. J asked me how it was and between bites I managed to mumble “delicious.”
J asked me that because she thought the one that she grabbed was a little on the dry side. Her selection was the Peanut Butter and Jelly. The vanilla cake is filled with a raspberry filling then frosted with with peanut butter buttercream. It’s finished off with a dollop of raspberry jelly on top.
The other two cupcakes wer a raspberry cupcake that J’s mom took and a wedding cake cupcake that I brought to work with me to give to the co-worker who turned me on to the place. Both were thoroughly enjoyed. The cupcake given to the co-worker inspired many Facebook posts over a couple hours. She didn’t want to eat it right away, but she tortured herself by staring at it until she finally gave in to temptation.
I’ve written a few times in the past year about gourmet cupcakes. BC Cupcake Factory is such a surprising find. When I first heard about it, it was in a pizza shop. Now, the place to get fantastic cupcakes in the Battle Creek area is in a hot dog stand. That just seems crazy to me. Like I’ve said about a few other places, I really wish they’d get their own shop. I don’t mind going really out of the way to Springfield to get these cupcakes, but if they were in their own shop in a more convenient location, it would be hard to stop me from picking up cupcakes everytime I go to Battle Creek.

I came to the Springfield Farmers market one day in search of Bumbleberries cupcakes. When i went up tho the counter for Bills Hot Dog Factory and asked if the cupcakes on the counter were Bumbleberries they told me that they were and sold the cupcake to me as if it was. Later that day i had discovered that i was not eating a Bumbleberries cupcake. Bills Hot Dog Factory had lied to me and many other people.
