Wings Etc – Oshtemo Township
I think we’re running out of new places to eat. Sunday was another lazy Sunday, but we still needed to go grocery shopping. J wanted to eat before going to Meijer, but I really couldn’t come up with any place new. My picks were either Gallagher’s or Burdick’s West, but as we were getting ready to leave, J said, “What about Wings Etc?” I always forget about that place even though we pass it almost daily. I said sure, so that’s were we headed.
There are two Wings Etc locations in the Kalamazoo area. We’ve eaten at the Portage location on South Westnedge in the past, but have never been to the Oshtemo location on 9th Street across from the Walmart.
The Oshtemo is pretty similar to the Portage location. Same layout. Same decor. Lots of TV’s. The menu is pub food with a focus on wings. Being a wing fan, I should love the place. It’s cheaper than Buffalo Wild Wings and the wings are bigger, but the way they sauce them sucks. I’ve gone over this in past reviews, but they don’t sauce the whole wing. It’s like they put the wings on the plate then drizzle the sauce over them.
Knowing that, I decided to skip the wings this time and try something else. We first started with a Pepsi and an Iced Tea while we looked over the menu. We asked the waitress for a couple more minutes when she came back with drinks because neither of us were quite ready to order.
Since I didn’t go with the wings, I went to my second favorite non-burger or pizza food, BBQ. I didn’t really want whole ribs, but I did notice a rib tip dinner. The description said the tips were wood smoked so I bit. I got 10 tips that are covered in a sticky, sweet BBQ sauce. The tips were fairly tender and did have a hint of that wood smoke, but most of it was covered by the sauce. The dinner includes fries and a side. I went with the straight fries which were very crispy but needed a little salt. The side I chose was the mac and cheese. It was a small bowl of very cheesy pasta.
J ordered the Crispy Chicken Bacon wrap. That is a flour tortilla with crispy chicken, lettuce, bacon, cheese, and ranch dressing. It comes with tomatoes as well, but she left them off. She really said nothing at all about the wrap. The only thing she said about her meal was that the fries were really good.
Our bill was just a little bit over $21. While I’m not a huge fan of the chicken wings at Wings Etc., I did enjoy the rib tips and I think there’s more on the menu that could make the place a pretty great little bar. They do have pretty good drink specials and if you want to actually enjoy a football game from an out of area team, this is the place to go. The bar was pretty packed and the other tables in the dining room were filled with guys wearing jersey’s that weren’t Lions. I have to stop forgetting about this place when I need dinner.
