Who doesn’t like ice cream for dinner?  Seriously.  Who doesn’t?

I was feeling really uninspired when it came time to talk about dinner.  I pulled my fat butt off the couch to go grill up some chicken but before I got too far, J said she wanted to go to Culver’s.  I didn’t really feel like cooking anyway so instead of heading to the freezer to get chicken, I headed to the bedroom to get my jeans.

There are three Culver’s locations in the Greater Kalamazoo area.  We used to go to the Portage location all the time for Concrete Mixer’s, but it’s actually been a while since we’ve actually eaten real food there.  When we lived in Morton, IL, we were within walking distance of one and ate there quite often.  It was the closest fast food and we’ve always liked it, so it worked out well.

The second Kalamazoo location is right off I-94 on 9th Street in Texas Township (the third is on Gull Road).  We were coming from Stadium Drive so the restaurant was on our left.  Not usually a problem, but this very snowy Tuesday made the trek treacherous, but not treacherous enough that we’d pass up frozen custard.

J had just waken up from her nap, so she really didn’t want to go inside.  I pulled around to the drive thru.  Not my favorite thing in the world to do, but she does the ordering so I went along with it.

Ever since having my first ButterBurger at the first Peoria, IL location several years ago, I’ve been a big fan of the chain.  ButterBurgers aren’t really butter (did I need to tell you that?).  The butter part comes from the bun which they butter and lightly toast.  The burger is fresh ground chuck that is seared on a grill and made fresh.

I ordered the Double Bacon Cheddar ButterBurger value basket which I got with fries and a Pepsi.  The burger is fantastic when compared to the other fast food chains.  It was still pretty juicy with a slice of real Wisconsin cheddar melted into the meat.  The top of the bun remains pretty soft while the part inside has a light toast to it.  The fries are crinkle cut fries. Nothing great, but tasty and filling.  My Pepsi was pretty much all ice.  I think I drank it in two gulps.  I was really surprised to open the cup and see it filled to the top with ice.  There was no room for any pop.

For dessert….even though I ate it first, I ordered an Oreo Concrete Mixer.  That’s odd for me because I usually order the Peanut Butter Cup Concrete Mixer.  Not really sure why I said Oreo, but it was still incredibly delicious.  The Concrete Mixer’s are the reason we go to Culver’s and I wasn’t going to make a trip to one without getting custard.

J really wanted a chocolate milkshake.  She’s been craving one for a couple days so that was the first thing she ordered.  For dinner, she got the Cranberry Bacon Bleu Salad.  All her favorite things in one salad.  It’s a bed of mixed greens, grape tomatoes, cucumber, craisins, bleu cheese crumbles, and bacon bits.  It also comes with chicken, but she asked to leave that off.  Once she got home, she took off most of the tomatoes and cucumbers.   She got her choice of dressing and picked the Bleu Cheese Dressing.  She’s more of a fan of places that pair a dressing with a salad because she hates asking “What are my choices?” when she’s asked, “What kind of dressing do you want?”

Our bill was just under $20 but that’s because I had to have custard.  If I could have resisted, it would have been three bucks cheaper.  Even though we’re not fast food people when we eat out together, we always enjoy the food from Culver’s.  This trip was no exception.

I am suprised to see the snow, just a sligh dusting here in Pokagon, no snow at all in Niles, just bare ground.

We loveCulver’s also, the only one around here close is Mishawaka.
