Pizza by Mr. Scribs – Laketon
I’ve been going to Muskegon every so often for work for the last couple of years. Every time I go with a certain co-worker, he raves about a small pizza chain unique to the Muskegon area. We don’t usually have time for dinner or I’ve brought mine with me and not wanted to spend the money. After constant pestering, I finally decided to give in and give this pizza a try.
Pizza by Mr. Scribs is constantly voted best pizza in the Muskegon. They have five locations with four in the Muskegon area and one in Grand Haven. My co-worker and I had a little bit of extra time around dinner time. Initially, he said he wanted Taco Bell, but when I threw out Mr. Scribs, his eyes lit up.
We chose the Mr. Scribs on Laketon Avenue right at the intersection with Jaman Street. I asked my co-worker if it was a carry-out type place where you went in and placed an order or if it was more of a sit down restaurant. He said it was more of a carry-out place, but we should probably call an order in.
He looked up the number on his iPad then asked if there was anything I didn’t like on my pizza. I only said onions not expecting him to order a deluxe, but that’s exactly what he did after making sure there were no onions on it. Read more…

Arnie’s Bakery & Restaurant – Wyoming
After a little over a week off, it was time for me to go back to work. There was one little wrinkle in that plan though. My work needed my company car last week so they came and took it. That mean I was either going to have to leave my personal car in Grand Rapids for a while until we had an opportunity to get it home or J was going to have to take me to work.
We chose the latter since J’s mom was in town. It is the longest trip J would take in over a month and we’d get to try out another restaurant in the Grand Rapids area.
Things have changed a little bit with a baby. We now have to think about what would be a good place to be if she started crying. Since it was our first trip out of the house, we really had no idea how she was going to act.
We decided to play it safe and go to a family restaurant. What better family restaurant in the Grand Rapids area than Arnie’s Bakery & Restaurant?
The Arnie’s Bakery has been part of Grand Rapids since the early 1900’s. The restaurant opened in the 70’s in Rockford and that location is still open today. There are three other locations in Grand Rapids. There’s one near Centerpointe Mall, a new store on Leonard and one in Wyoming.
Since we were coming from the south, we chose the Wyoming location on 54th Street and Clyde Park. Read more…
Bacchus Wine & Spirits
So, where to take my daughter for her first meal out? We had our first pediatrics appointment this morning and it was the first time we had been out of the house since coming home from the hospital. After our 11:30, we had the debate on whether we wanted to chance sitting down for lunch somewhere or grab something to go. Since L was crying as we were driving, we opted for the picking something up to go.
We were both in the mood for something lighter and something quick. For whatever, we have neglected the Deli at Bacchus Wine & Spirits. I always see the smoker going when I drive by and even though it wasn’t fired up today, I still wanted to try their deli sandwiches.
Bacchus Wine & Spirits is at that weird intersection where Oakland Drive, Whites Road, and Parkview Avenue all sort of intersect. The building is across the street from the D & W Fresh Market which makes it easy to find.
Bacchus is a specialty food store that specializes in unique cheese, sausages, and meats as well as liquor store with a wide selection of liqour, wine, and beer. They’ve been in business since 1971 at that same corner. Read more…
Penn Station East Coast Subs – Gull Road
After a couple of long days, things were settling down for J, me, and the new addition to our family, L. Like we were expecting, sleep was rare the first couple nights and eating for me since we got to the hospital on Thursday was something I sort of put on the back burner.
On Monday night, the hunger pangs were setting in and after I got J settled with her meal and Baby L was content, I asked if it was ok if I took off for a little bit to get something to eat for myself.
We’re not out in the Gull Road area very often, so I really didn’t know what my options were. I had thought about fried chicken but I didn’t want to bring that back to the hospital room. I remembered there was a Penn Station somewhere on Gull Road so I went looking for that knowing that it’s always a quality meal.
After getting a few honks for driving too slow while I was looking in all the strip malls along Gull Road, I finally found the Penn Station on Gull Road just to the southwest of 26th Street and across the street from Applebees. Read more…
