So many chains lately. I’ve eaten at so many chains recently. It’s highly unusual for me but convenience and price has been a pretty big factor.

This week was an unusual week. I typically work a night shift on Monday night and in the fall, I work a double shift on Friday which takes me until about 10:00 PM so I’m not home those two nights in the evening. This week, I was forced to work night shifts on Tuesday and Thursday as well plus I had to go to Illinois Wednesday evening for a funeral so I was gone every night this week.

I was trying really hard not to eat out too much early in the week. I knew having to drive home Wednesday I was going to eat out a couple of times and needed to save some money.

I just couldn’t do it Tuesday night. I tried but it got to a point I was so hungry I had to find something. I knew I didn’t want to spend a lot but I also wanted something where I wouldn’t still be hungry.

I picked the Little Caesars on the corner of Westnedge Avenue and Whites Road in Kalamazoo’s Westnedge Hill Neighborhood. The pizza chain is in the large shopping complex on the corner in the back building where Salut Market is. The restaurant takes up the corner space of the building which gives it the unique feature, for a Little Caesars, of having a drive thru.

I put an order in online for Slices and Stix Bacon pizza and a bottle of Pepsi. The cost was right around $13. Ordering online is the only way to go with Little Caesars. I don’t know if they still do the Hot ‘n Ready, but there’s no way I’d even try that anymore. It’s quicker, easier, and you have better pizza options if you just use the app or put an order in on their website.

I was slightly concerned when I got to the store because it looked really dark. The sign wasn’t lit up and it didn’t look like there were many lights on inside nor did I see anyone inside at first. I could see that there were pizzas in the portal though so I got out and pulled on the door. It opened, so I went inside to get my pizza.

The restaurant is like most Little Caesars now. It’s strictly carryout and there is not a lot of room inside. There is an order counter for people that don’t use the online ordering and that’s about it. It’s a pretty bare, kind of sterile white tiled room.

My pizza was in the portal when I walked so I went straight there, put in my code and watched the door open. I grabbed the pizza, a container of sauce from a nearby box and my bottle of Pepsi. I was in and out of the restaurant in about two minutes.

The Slices and Stix Bacon is a combination of pizza and crazy bread. Half the pie is a traditional pepperoni pizza. The other half is a modified Crazy bread with bacon.

I started with the Stix side of the pizza. Crazy Bread is obviously made from the same pizza dough used to make pizzas but when it’s formed a little thicker. Since the Stix are part of the pizza, they’re a little bit thinner than Crazy Bread but they have the same salty, delicious taste. There was a lot of butter on the Stix side which made them a little bit of a mess but, let’s be honest, the butter is what makes Crazy Bread so good. I opted to go for the option with the addition of bacon on the Stix side. It just added a little more saltiness and a little bit of crunch to the bread.

The pizza side is…well….Little Caesars pizza. I don’t hate it but it’s not my favorite either. There’s a reason it’s so cheap and, as I mentioned, cheap is what I was looking for this night. I actually bought this pizza planning on only eating half and saving the rest for the next day’s lunch but that didn’t happen. I told you I was hungry.

I think in all the times I’ve blogged about Little Caesars I’ve been pretty obvious. I don’t love Little Caesars pizza. I do appreciate the price though and really think that for the price, it’s a pretty decent pizza. This Westnedge location is no different than any of the other Little Caesars locations in the area, it’s just the closest to my work now that the one on North Park Street shut down. I’m glad I had an option on this night that wasn’t something like McDonalds. This was way more filling and probably a little cheaper than a fast food meal.
