Long John Silvers (Oshtemo Township)
Sometimes I make decisions that even surprise me.
Monday night was a fairly slow day at work. We had a lot of office stuff to do and didn’t really leave for the entire eight hour shift. That’s really unusual for us.
I was hungry and I figured since we weren’t really doing a lot outside of the office, I’d take my lunch break and go find something to eat.
I have never eaten at a Long John Silvers before. I don’t like fish so why would I?
Somehow, I found myself on Long John Silvers website, noticed they had chicken, and ended up putting in an order.
The Long John Silvers in Oshtemo Township is on West Main Street just to the east of Maple Hill Drive. The business has been there for quite a while but the building is fairly new. The old style building was tore down a couple of years ago and this newer, sleeker build was erected in it’s place.
This part of West Main is kind of a drive from the office downtown so I put my order in online hoping it would just be a grab and go situation. I ordered the 3 piece chicken meal which came with two sides and hush puppies. The cost was a little over $12.
You can definitely tell this is a newer store when you walk in. There is a typical fast food order counter right up front but they don’t really use it anymore. There was no one working there and it took several minutes for someone to notice there was actually someone (me) in the store.
Most ordering is done on kiosks that are on the counter. That’s typically fine with me but I had already put an order in and was just looking to pick it up.
Someone did finally come up and I told them I had an online order. He looked at the computer, printed something out, then went to the kitchen to start making it. It was close to 20 minutes after I ordered and they hadn’t even started it yet. I might as well of just come in to the store and ordered it on the kiosks. I may have gotten my food faster.
I reluctantly realized it was going to be a few minutes so I went and sat down in the dining room. Again, the newness of the store really shows. The dining room has a really nice look to it with floor tiles that look like natural wood, and a blue and white color scheme throughout that gives it a bit of cleanness.
It took about another 15 minutes for my name to be called. I grabbed the bag and headed back to the office to eat as I was already pushing it pretty close to being over my lunch break.
The thing I can’t complain about is the amount of food I got for $12.
I started with the fries which is what I ordered for one of my sides. They’re simple frozen waffle fries with a little bit of seasoning. It’s nothing too out of the ordinary but it they were tasty enough for fast food fries.
The second side I chose was the cheese bites which are a $2 upgrade. These small pieces of fried cheese are similar to Culver’s cheese curds. There were quite a few in the box and for what they were, were also quite tasty.
My expectations for chicken at a fast food seafood place weren’t very high. This chicken is small pieces of white meat dipped in batter and fried. The pieces weren’t very big but I do like battered chicken. I enjoyed this chicken a lot more than I thought I would. Again, it’s nothing really out of the ordinary but it’s decent fried chicken.
From the food standpoint, I have no complaints. This was a $12 meal and I was pretty satisfied after eating it. I was (and still kind of am) annoyed that my meal wasn’t ready when I got there. They weren’t swamped or anything. I think there were two cars in the drive thru and one other guy waiting for food in the lobby. I did the order ahead option for a reason. It’s a bummer than I had to wait so long when I got there.
