Dunkin’ (Otsego)
J and L were in Salt Lake City for the US Figure Skating National Solo Dance Finals. B and I were at home in Kalamazoo.
B did a few Solo Dance competitions this year but he was nowhere near the top let alone in a position to qualify for Nationals. It was kind of a testing the waters year for him to see if he was interested in pursuing solo dance or not.
At least that was our perspective. He doesn’t look at anything that way though. He thought he was going to qualify.
He didn’t. He had a really good season but he was kind of learning as he goes. Next year will be his year.
He wanted to skate this past weekend though and there was a competition in Holland that our coaches were going to. I asked if he wanted to do that instead. Of course, he said yes.
We got up around 9:00 to make the drive over to Holland. His first event was at 12:20, but I wanted to get him there to watch some of his friends skate earlier.
We can’t go to a competition without getting breakfast though. L usually wants Starbucks on her way to the rink. B, on the other hand, is more of a Dunkin’ guy.
Of course, he asked for Dunkin’ before we left the house. It was kind of backtracking to go to the 9th Street Dunkin’ and it was still a little out of the way to go to the new Main Street one. I figured we’d just go cross country to Holland and stop in Otsego.
The Dunkin’ in Otsego is M-89 near 12th Street Otsego. The building is a new build in front of the Walmart. This was the talk of the town…or at least the Facebook pages… when it opened back in February of this year.
The building is on a very narrow lot. I’m sure the majority of the business is drive thru but I’m not a huge fan of picking up online orders through the drive thru. It usually seems quicker to just go in. The issue with this Dunkin’ though is the parking. All of the parking is parallel parking around the building. I know how to parallel park so it’s not an issue but my mom was following me to Holland and watching her trying to park was quite funny.
The inside of the store is pretty small. There’s room for the order counter and not much else. I think there were maybe two small tables against the outside wall and a rail to stand along but that was it for seating. My order was sitting in the pick up area so I just went and grabbed it.
I realized I forgot to order a donut so I asked my mom to grab one when she put in her order for her and my dad. Growing up in the Chicago area, the thing we always got from Dunkin’ (Donuts) was the vanilla long john. Still my all time favorite type of donut. The Dunkin’s in Michigan don’t seem to have that particular donut so I got him a vanilla sprinkle one instead.
B’s order at Dunkin’ is pretty simple. He wants two Bacon Wake Up Wraps, a lemonade, and a donut. The cost usually runs around $13.
The Bacon Wake Up Wraps are really simple. They’re just a small flour tortilla with eggs, bacon, and cheese. I could make this at home but sometimes it’s easier to just hit up the Dunkin’ on the way out of town. This boy destroys these things. They’re not very big but even so, it’s like two bites for him. I think he would eat these every morning for breakfast if he could.
Dunkin’ is our go-to when we have to get moving in the morning. There are more and more popping up in the area which makes it easy for us to always find one on the go. This location in Otsego is a little off the beaten path for us but it worked great this day as we were heading to the lakeshore.
