Friday was a really long day at the rink.

We were in Traverse City for the annual Cherry Classic at Centre Ice Arena. It’s one of our favorite competitions of the year just for the fact that it gives us a reason to go to Traverse City for a couple of nights.

L had five skates at this competition. Four of them were on Friday. B had three and two of his were on Friday as well. We were at the rink from about 7:30 AM until almost 9 PM.

I had performed my Dad Dash duties a couple of time making Starbucks and Chick-Fil-A runs and a taco run for myself.

J suggested we order a pizza or something and have it waiting in the car for when L got done with her last skate. We were going to be walking out of the arena after 8:30 and a lot of places were going to start closing around 9:00.

I had to get out of the arena for a while because the WiFi f’n sucks. I was trying to watch scores for events come in but my phone wouldn’t connect to the WiFi and there was no cell service. Instead of getting mad, I just went outside to the car.

About 45 minutes before L was scheduled to skate, I decided to put in the order for a pizza. There was a place pretty close so I could go get it and hoped it would still be fairly warm when we got to it a half hour or so later.

That’sa Pizza is a small chain of three shops in the Traverse City area. The closest one to Centre Ice Arena is actually right down the street on Hammond Road and Three Mile Road in East Bay Township. The small pizzeria is part of a shopping center that also includes an Oleson Food Store. That was clutch because I forgot to ask for plates. I just went next door and grabbed a cheap package of paper plates and a cheap roll of paper towels.

I put an order in online for a 16″ half cheese, half pepperoni pizza and an order of Cheesy Breadsticks. The cost was a little over $30 before tip.

That’sa Pizza is a pretty typical carry-out/delivery pizza joint. There’s a counter directly across from the door where I immediately headed to to see if the pizza was ready. The lady at the counter said she thought that was the one she just put in the warmer so she went to look.

My boxes were sitting there so I grabbed them and headed to the car. We were heading back to the hotel to eat (after finishing up at the rink) but there is a pretty large dining room in the restaurant if you’re an eat in at the pizza place type of person.

We finished up at the rink a little before 9:00 and headed back to the hotel. I kept reminding L that we had pizza in the car so get her stuff together and let’s go.

I couldn’t wait to pop the box open when we got to our room. I immediately went to the Cheesy Breadsticks. They are exactly what they sound like. Breadsticks with cheese. There was some cheddar in the mix in addition to the mozzarella and it came with a garlic butter dipping sauce cup. I ate about half of those because the kids usually prefer pizza over breadsticks. J grabbed a couple and made a few remarks about good they were. I had a few left over for breakfast the next morning which I wasn’t mad about.

The pizza is pretty typical delivery style pizza. I’m glad I went with the 16″ because everyone was hungry.

The crust is kind of similar to Papa Johns which I actually really like. I wish I would have gotten more garlic butter. The sauce was on pretty thick and it’s got just a hint of sweetness. I could have done with some more cheese but I like cheesy pizzas. This wasn’t bad and is just a minor complaint…if you even want to call it that. Overall, the pizza was really tasty and way better than a pizza from one of the national chains.

This is our third year going to Cherry Classic and this is the first time I’ve even realized there was a pizza place that close to the rink. It worked out perfectly for me to grab a pizza just before our last event of the day. I’ve driven by the That’sa Pizza in Acme before and kept thinking I should go back. This one on Hammond Road worked out really well and it was really tasty.
