I’ve mentioned it several times in the past. When we travel for skating competitions, the kids turn me in to Dad Dash.

Friday was a busy day for us at the Cherry Classic being held at Centre Ice Arena near Traverse City. L skated four times and B skated twice. It seemed like the longest break we had between skates was two hours so it definitely wasn’t long enough to leave the rink and go get lunch.

That’s where I come in.

When both kids got done with their first event (2 skates each) I had to run back to the hotel. I was trying to do some work while sitting at the rink but the WiFi was laughable at best. I was trying to upload some stuff to our server and it wouldn’t go through. I needed the hotel WiFi.

The kids were also hungry and they chose Chick-Fil-A….which is fine, but it’s on the other side of town. I told them it was going to take me at least an hour to get out there and back with food.

On an earlier Starbucks run, I stopped at a gas station on the corner of Three Mile and Hammond Road. I noticed a taco place just past the intersection. Chick-Fil-A sounded fine but tacos sounded better.

Taqueria TC Latino Dos is on Three Mile Road just to the north of the intersection with Hammond Road. The small building looks more like a house than a restaurant. There are a few parking spots to the south of the building in the parking lot for the gas station. I saw someone else park there and walk in so I did the same.

As is pretty obvious from the outside, the restaurant is pretty small. I found an order counter right inside the door when I walked in. There was no online ordering available so I actually had to go in an order in person. I knew what I wanted before I walked in so I just told the lady I’d like a to-go order for four steak tacos. She rang up the tacos…which were only $2.25 each then I took a seat in the dining room to wait.

There were a couple of people dining in when I sat down but most of the people in the restaurant at the same time were waiting for to-go orders. The dining space is pretty tight and there’s only about a half dozen tables.

It didn’t take much more than five minutes for the bag to come out with my tacos. The clerk through in a couple of things of hot sauce and I headed back to the rink with my tacos and everyone else’s nuggets.

The tacos were…well, they were tacos. And they were delicious. Each of the double layered corn tortillas were over filled with tender bites of steak, cilantro and onion. I used the red hot sauce first. It was spicy but not very spicy. When I used all of that, I switched the green which wasn’t spicy at all but still had a good peppery flavor. The tacos were delicious. I had a couple of people walk by me while I was eating and asked where I got them from so hopefully I turned some other out of towners on to a local place instead of just going to another fast food joint.

Tacqueria TC Latino Dos is way better than the Chick-Fil-A the rest of my family had for lunch. The best thing for me was the price. Finding tacos for $2.50 anymore seems like a rarity as most places have gone well above $3. I probably should have grabbed at least one more just out of principle.

We love the Traverse City competition and while it’s not always the highest scoring, it’s one of the most fun. Who doesn’t love taking a weekend trip to TC? My family pretty much sticks to fast food joints but I always like to find other things while I’m out Dad Dashing. This place wasn’t on my radar when I got there but I can never turn down a taco.
