Let me know if you’ve read this one before.   I’m traveling through a small town and I come across a gas station with Krispy Krunchy Chicken.

I stop for lunch.

I blog about it.

What’s that?  You’ve read that one before?

Well.   You’re gonna read about it again.

I was in Gobles early last week by myself on a job assignment.   It was only going to take about an hour then I’d have the rest of the day to catch up on some things.  I know there’s not a lot to eat in Gobles but I’ve had luck at a few places.   When I did a search to see if there was anything new.  I found something familiar.

Krispy Krunchy Chicken is inside Woodies Goodies on the corner of State Street (M-40) and Van Buren Street in the center of Gobles.   The small store is a pretty typical convenience store with gas pumps out front.  I’ve stopped in this place before but back then, they didn’t have chicken.

I walked past the snacks to grab a couple of Pepsi’s for the day. Woody’s isn’t a huge convenience store but they have the things you’d typically find in a gas station.

The chicken counter is in the back corner. It’s kind of connected to the cashier counter. There’s a gap between but the person running the cashier is the same person who gets the chicken. He saw me looking and came over to see what I wanted.

Like most gas station chicken, everything is all ready and sitting under warming lamps. I was there just a little after 11:00 so my hope was most of the food would be pretty fresh since it was just now lunch time.

I thought I ordered the 4 piece tender Krunch box which comes with a side but I was charged for the tenders and the side separately. I didn’t feel like arguing so I just grabbed the bag and headed to the car. The cost with the two Pepsi’s was right around $17.

I started with the potato wedges when I got in the car. The small order was a lot bigger than I was expecting. The wedges were really crispy on the outside and really soft and fluffy in the middle. There’s a little bit of the cajun seasoning on them as well but nothing overpowering. These are some of the better wedges I get when I order gas station chicken.

I was going to wait until I got back in the office in Kalamazoo to eat the chicken but I had a hard time waiting. I had broken in the box before I got back to M-43. The chicken from Krispy Krunchy Chicken is some of the best gas station chicken there is. The breading is crunchy but it’s also kind of light and airy at the same time. The meat was really soft and juicy so I was right in my assumption that this was pretty fresh chicken. It’s always hit or miss with gas station chicken but I caught this one at the right time. The four tenders were gone before I got back to 9th Street.

To finish off the meal, there’s a biscuit in the box with the chicken. It’s a buttermilk biscuit with honey butter. The biscuits are always a little hard and a little sticky but they’re always pretty tasty.

I will never pass up gas station chicken. I really didn’t need to be eating out this week but as soon as I saw the sign when I drove by Woody’s Goodies, I knew where I was heading for lunch.
