The Little Store
I don’t think it’s much of a secret I find a lot of new restaurants on Facebook. I feel like a lot of people do that.
I’m in a lot of different community groups in Southwest Michigan so I see a lot of posts for places that aren’t easily accessible to me but places I really want to try.
I had to make a run out to Saugatuck last Thursday for work and it gave me a chance to find a pizza place along the way that I’ve been really wanting to get to.
The Little Store is more than just a pizza place. It’s a whole grocery store with a really great kitchen.
The shop is on the corner of 122nd Avenue and 66th Street in Ganges Township southwest of Fennville. This is really one of those you’ll never know it’s there if you’re not looking for it kind of places. It’s about a mile of M-89 and unless you’re heading to the Ganges Baptist Church, there’s really nothing else in the area that would bring you to the store.
The deli part of the store is right inside the front door. There is a large area with deli meats, fresh hot food and pizza. I had no idea this was an option or I probably would have just picked something up on the way to my job site. I called in an order for a whole pizza instead when I got to about Allegan.
Like I said earlier, there is more than just pizza. They also have a bunch of stuff that comes from the fryer as “shareables” and there are options to order burgers, sandwiches, and calzones.
I walked around the store a little bit so I could grab a couple of Pepsi’s before heading to the counter to get my pizza. The store is great for people that live in this area. It’s pretty rural and there are a lot of large farms in the area. This little store has all the pantry staples and snacks a person would need so a trip in to South Haven or somewhere with a supermarket isn’t necessary.
I put in an order for a 12″ pizza with pepperoni, sausage, and jalapenos. I asked for it at the counter when I brought up my Pepsi’s to pay. The cost for the pizza and the two pops was just under $20.
I always kind of underestimate how big a 12″ pizza is. I was smart this time and go the smaller one because this pizza was loaded with toppings.
The first thing I noticed was how much cheese is on the pizza. There was a lot of it. As I tried to rip away the first slice the rest of the pizza was trying desperately to cling to the triangle I was attempting to pull away. The pizza was covered in crispy pepperoni, big pinches of sausage and slices of jalapenos. All of it was cooked to a nice golden brown. The pizza was delicious and super filling. I only ate four slices sitting in a park near Douglas waiting for a co-worker then I took the rest home. I was going to take it to work the next day but it didn’t last that long. I couldn’t help myself and just finished it off later that night before going to bed.
The Little Store is the true definition of a hidden gem. This place isn’t easy to stumble upon but they’ve done a really good job recently getting their name out there on some Allegan County Facebook pages. I never would have found them any other way. I’m glad I did. I didn’t really know what to expect when I ordered my lunch last Thursday. I what I got was a really delicious pizza.
