Mi Pi Pizzaria
I finally get a day where I stick to Kalamazoo. It’s been a while that I haven’t left town for work.
I had to run over to FedEx Office near Western Michigan University to pick up some stuff for J. I decided to run over on my lunch break while I had a little bit of free time.
I was hungry…I mean, it was lunch time…so I planned on getting lunch while I was out.
There’s not a lot of quick things to pick up between WMU and downtown but there are a couple of new places in the new Student Center to grab lunch.
The Student Center is on Arcadia Loop right at the roundabout that ends Michigan Avenue by Sangren Hall.
There is parking next to the old Bernhard Center at the meters. You can enter either at the second floor level where the admissions information is or you can follow the sidewalk down to the lower level entrance where you’ll come in next to the Bookstore.
I decided to stop at Mi Pi Pizzaria. The quick fired pizza shop is on the bottom floor of the new student center next to Fuego Verde in a small food court like area.
If you’re familiar with Blaze Pizza or MOD Pizza, you know how this works.
The menu is on a video screen in the queueing area. It’s pretty small. They have a “Signature Pi” option but you can also do a “Build Your Own.”
I decided just to keep it simple and order the Meat Lovers Signature Pi. The guy making the pizza grabbed a pizza peel with a 10″ crust all ready to go. He topped it with the red sauce, mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, ham, sausage, and bacon. He did ask if I wanted anything else on it before going in the oven. There are a lot of the typical pizza toppings to choose from underneath a glass door that opens up when they need to access. It’s not like the other quick fire pizza places that have everything sitting out like it’s a Subway line.
The pizza went in the oven then I moved down the line to pay. The cost of my pizza was a little over $10.
It took a little less than ten minutes for the pizza come out, be cut in to squares then handed to me.
There is a pretty large seating area in this food court area in the bottom floor of the student center. I decided to just grab my box and head back to the office.
The pizza is pretty much what I was expecting. It looks similar to other quick fired pizza restaurants. They did put a lot of meat on it though so that was nice to see.
My expectations were pretty low. I just wanted an edible pizza. I got a pizza that was pretty tasty. The crust was still pretty soft and a little doughy, but it’s only a 10″ pizza so it’s still pretty easy to fold over and keep the toppings on even though the crust doesn’t really hold up. Flavor wise, the pizza was really good. Like I mentioned earlier, there was a lot of meat on this pizza. I should have asked for the Hot Honey finishing sauce. It would have added a little heat and a little more flavor to the pizza.
I got roasted pretty hard when I put up my blog of Fuego Verde. I always try to look for the good in things….it’s very rarely that I go negative…find the good, right.
I’m hoping I don’t get roasted as bad for this one. Is Mi Pi as good as MOD or Blaze? No. Is it still a good pizza? Yeah. I enjoyed it and the convenience of being right on campus makes it appealing. You can’t get a delivery pizza for $10 anymore. Mi Pi is a solid place to grab something to eat while getting some studying done or on your way back to the dorms after class.
