I have missed Lunchtime Live a lot this year.  It seems like every Friday, I’m out of the office during the two hours the food trucks are set up at Bronson Park.

I finally thought I could sneak over there and grab something to eat last week…but I was a little too early.  Most of the food trucks were still setting up and not ready to open.  I didn’t have a lot of time to wait around.

There was a truck that was ready to go though…and it’s a restaurant that I’ve known and enjoyed for several years….and it’s BBQ.

Big Moe’s BBQ Express has restaurant out on Gull Road but they also have a food truck they can hall around for catering and special events.  In this case, the special event was Lunchtime Live.

Not everything was quite ready to go yet but there was enough that was. I put in an order for rib tips. I had also asked for the smoked mac & cheese but he said there was about 10 minutes before that’d be ready. I had to get back to the office because we were getting ready to leave for an assignment.

There’s a lot of BBQ at Lunchtime Live and with food trucks in general. Big Moe’s is different from all of them. The thing that really makes Big Moe’s standout is their sauce. You will almost never see me order BBQ or talk about BBQ based solely on their sauce, but Big Moe’s is the exception. It’s a sauce you could drink.

The rib tips came in a large to-go container just swimming in that thin, sweet sauce. The was kind of smaller pieces that I expected for tips but there was a lot of it. There weren’t many bones either which is a bonus. I didn’t grab a fork and I really should have but that just gave me an excuse to suck the sauce off of my fingers once I was done. Seriously, this is one of the few BBQ sauces I will buy when I see it on the shelves at the grocery store. It’s the one time I’ll tell you it’s acceptable to put sauce on BBQ.

The cost of the meal was $15.

I’ve always said the meat at Big Moe’s is comparable to anyone else in town but if you like sweet sauces, Big Moe’s is your only option. I always forget about them out there on Gull Road until I drive by and smell the BBQ on the way. I’ve eaten at Moe’s several times in a few different locations over the years. Was glad to reacquaint myself with the food truck when I was in a hurry and needed a tasty lunch.
