I always spend a lot of time in South Haven around the 4th of July. It’s not that I want to. The town is nuts that weekend, but work brings me there so I have no choice.

A co-worker and I were in town the Friday before the holiday. We had a couple of things to take care of. It was going to be an easy day…but a long one.

We stopped at the gas station near the high school as soon as we got in town for potty breaks and to grab some drinks. While we were there, co-worker went to the Mancino’s and got himself a sandwich. I probably should have done the same thing but I didn’t feel like waiting in line.

I wasn’t really hungry anyway but I guess I could have gotten ahead of the hunger knowing I’d be in town all day.

Later in the afternoon, we were driving near downtown and I spotted a food truck. I didn’t know what it was, but I pulled in to the parking lot anyway to see and found BBQ.

RLM Barbecue is a food truck from Resurrection Life Ministries on Elkenburg Street in South Haven. I’ve seen the blue food truck a couple of times but this time, they were parked in the lot next to the Village Market building on Huron Street.

The menu isn’t very big. Rib tips and rib tacks are the main attraction.

Both sounded messy to eat in the car but I picked the small order rib tips. I had cash on my so I paid with a $10. The lady working the kitchen leaned out and asked if I wanted sauce on the tips. Once that was decided, she handed over the Styrofoam container.

We went to a different parking lot to eat because we had another assignment coming up so I just went there and waited.

The small container was overflowing with tender rib tips and a sweet, sticky sauce. I thought maybe the small wouldn’t be enough for me but that was not the case. These were big, meaty tips with very few of those annoying little bones. The sauce was probably out of a big jug of sauce bought from a restaurant supply store but that was fine. It was a sweet tasty sauce that I couldn’t get enough of and kept dipping the tips back in for more.

My only complaint, which is one you will hear over the next couple of blog posts, is that they didn’t give me enough napkins for saucy BBQ. I noticed when I was ready to clean up that there were only two napkins in the bag. I made the most out of those two napkins but then had to go inside the building we were parked in front of and ask if I could use the bathroom to wash off the stickiness.

RLM Barbecue is a simple, but delicious truck. They don’t do a whole lot but what they do is tasty BBQ.
