So, yeah, it’s been about a month since I blogged about a place in Michigan and even longer than since I’ve had a Southwest Michigan blog post…my apologies, but again, this blog is my journal so I blog when I travel.

It took a while to get back in the swing of things once we returned from Puerto Rico but we had no choice but to jump back in.  Our plane got back to AZO at a little before 10:00 on Monday night and both J and I were back at work 9 AM Tuesday morning.

We didn’t really eat out much that week because we had eaten out a lot on vacation.  I was ready to stop eating leftovers by Friday though so I ventured out at lunch time.

I really could have taken the easy route here and just walked to Taco Bob’s on The Mall but there’s a new Taco Bob’s…and I needed a new blog post.  So here we are.

Taco Bob’s recently moved down Westnedge to the old Dairy Queen building near Westnedge and Crosstown Parkway.  It’s right across the street from Happy’s Pizza if that helps for reference.  This is a walk-up location with no inside seating but it does have something I don’t think any of the other Taco Bob’s have…..a drive thru. (Yeah, this was wrong.  Portage Street and Centre Avenue both have drive thrus.)

I took a second to actually stop and look at the menu this time.  I always rush when I go to Taco Bob’s and don’t order what I actually want.  I chose to park and walk up to the window so I didn’t feel as rushed.

I ordered four Funny Tacos and an order of Nachos with cheese.  The cost was a little over $13 without a drink.

The Funny Tacos are really the reason I choose Taco Bob’s over the other taco chains in Kalamazoo.  The idea is pretty simple. A hard shell taco with beef, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes with a soft flour tortilla stuck to the hard shell with a layer of nacho cheese.  The crunch of the hard shell is still there but there’s a gooey layer of nacho cheese and a little bit of flavor for the flour tortilla.  There is typically a lot more meat in these tacos compared to the big guys chain so while they may be a little more expensive, you’re getting more than a little “beef” in a big crunchy shell.

The nachos ordered this way come with the chips and the cheese separate.  There were two bags of thin, crunchy, salty chips.  Nothing super special, but still pretty tasty.

The cheese is the bright yellow nacho cheese similar to what you get at a sporting event.  It came in it’s own large plastic container and there was surprisingly enough for both bags of chips.  I was pretty stuffed after eating the tacos so I ate one bag of chips and saved the rest for later.

People that grew up in Kalamazoo swear by Taco Bob’s and honestly, it’s grown on me more and more over time.  The first time we stopped in to one of their stores it just kind of hit me as just another fast food taco place but there are days now I actually crave it.  Those days are happening more and more.
