Usually when it comes to gluttonous restaurants, I’m on top of things, but J found one that I must have glanced over.

We were spending a few days at J’s parents house and after a long day in the city, we didn’t really have any ideas for dinner.  While lounging on the couch, J remembered a newer restaurant not too far away that that had menu right up my ally.

Fatso’s has two locations in the Chicago suburbs and both are pretty close to where J lives.  The original location is on 95th Street in Oak Lawn in what appears to be an old Checker’s.  For some reason, we have never been to this one.  I don’t think we knew what it was about until the second location opened up in Alsip on 111th Street near Cicero.

Fatso’s is mostly a carry-out place, but they do have a few tables in this new location.  It’s in a strip mall wedged between a Mexican restaurant and a nail salon.  The space used to be a pizza joint before turning into this haven of oversized delicious foods.

The menu is pretty standard for a take out sandwich place.  There are  number of options, but it’s their big items that make this place stand out.  J and I both went to opposite ends of the spectrum on the big item part of the menu.

I ordered the burger creation known as The Triple Fatso Burger.  I’m not sure what I was exepecting, but I wasn’t expecting a sandwich that was over a foot tall and almost impossible to get in my mouth…almost.  The beef at Fatso’s is 100% Angus that is char-grilled.  The Triple Fatso is three 1/3 lb patties…so a full pound of meat on this sandwich.  It’s topped with American cheese, a fried onion ring, bacon, lettuce, onions, dill pickles, tomato, mustard, ketchup, and special sauce….that’s all according to the menu…what is not on the menu is that there is also a couple layers of french fries.  I wasn’t expecting the fries and they made the sandwich huge.  It was hard to get the thing in my mouth, but I tried as hard as I could.  I wasn’t going to let this pile of greasy deliciousness go to waste.  Just the burger alone was fantastic.  If we eat there again, I would be fine with just ordering a regular cheeseburger and knowing it would taste incredible.  I always love going big when I get the opportunity and this sandwich was definitely going big.

J and her mom split the the other big ticket item on Fatso’s menu.  The Fatso’s dog is…well….it’s got to be seen to be believed (is that cliche?).  This thing is two hot dogs, wrapped and deep fried in a 13″ tortilla with bacon, fries, jalapeno peppers, grilled onions, cheddar cheese, and chili.  If I liked hot dogs, I would have jumped at this.  Hell, I still thought about it because it just looked heart stoppingly good on paper.  J cut the creation in half and she and her mom each took half.

J’s dad went simple with a Polish Sausage.  The simple Maxwell polish comes with grilled onions (which he replaced with raw onions), mustard, and sport peppers.

L just kind of snacked on everything else that we got.  We got an interesting combo of deep fried foods including Mac and Cheese Wedges, a large order of fries, and loaded fries which comes topped with bacon and cheese.  All of these were pretty standard but I didn’t really try any of them because my burger was massive and I had more than I could actually eat.

The bill for all that food was just under $40.  Fatso’s is pretty amazing, but it’s the kind of place you can’t eat at very often.  You’re heart will hate you, but your taste buds will love you.

When I first heard of Fatso’s it was because of Chicago’s Best. Since then I have been a regular customer with my friends and family. This place brings back Old School ways of Freshly made Food, not that Frozen Crap you get across the street or next door to them. Good Homemade Food. Alway Family owned businesses are the Best places to eat at. Fatso’s congrats on your Review, you guys deserve the best publicity ever. Now you need DDD

Let me start by saying THANK YOU FATSO’S for The best food around. I’m a big Fan of Great Food. DDD needs to get a hold of Fatsos’s and jump on this fast, this place has so many secrets of great Homemade Food and Sauces.
My favorite was their Pulled Pork Sandwich which they took off the menu, But that BBQ sauce is on Top.
When my family goes to Fatso’s we have to get that Chipotle Burger. My wife gets the Meatball Sandwich or the Cali Dog. That Cali Dog is off the charts by the way. We also get the Chicken Club. Chicken is fresh and juicy. Last is you can never leave without your Fatso Fix, The FATSO DOG and FATSO BURGER.

I can’t believe that you still advertise when I have tried to stop at least 5 times, and called several times. When I called the Oak Lawn location they had more excuses why the Alsip location wasn’t or isn’t open. Don’t know how you can stay in business.
