L was starting to get a little cranky and J really wanted to take a shower before going to bed. I asked if she wanted to go on a little road trip. J asked what I had in mind and I said pizza.
It was dinner time anyway and someone had just recommended a pizza place in Paw Paw to me. L sleeps pretty good in her car seat so I knew the trip down I-94 would give J enough time to do what she wanted to do and I got pizza. Win win.
Amore Pizza is on West Michigan Avenue just to the west of the downtown business district. I put in our order for an 18″ thin crust pizza from home and by the time I got to the small store, it was ready.
The restaurant is a full service, sit down joint with a pretty typical Italian restaurant decor. The paint scheme is the same as an Italian flag and the table cloths were the red and white checkered ones you see at a lot of pizza joints.
I went in the side door from the small parking lot and found the kitchen counter. I set L, who was still passed out, down on the floor and gave the lady working my name. She headed back into the kitchen to pick up a huge box while I filled out the credit card slip. The X-Large pizza cost me just over $11.
While the typical pizza from Amore is a hand tossed, we opted for the thin crust. The pizza is a hand stretched dough with a slightly tangy sauce. The cheese was very golden brown, but not at all greasy. I got pepperoni on my half while J stuck with plain cheese.
The pizza was cut in to long triangles which were easily folded NY style. The handle on the crust had a nice snap to it, but the as you got further into the pizza, the crust got softer.
We both liked the pizza from Amore and didn’t have much of a problem putting it down. The large size gave us a few extra slices each for a midnight snack/breakfast.
Amore is a great small town pizza joint. When some people move to a new town, they look for a bar to call home. I always look for a go-to pizza place. If I was moving to Paw Paw, Amore would be that pizza place.
